Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today...

...to be super dead. No, did you think you were getting a funeral? Sorry.

When you wake up, no matter how you died, you'll find yourself all in one piece, inside of a fairly large box that upon further inspection may in fact be a coffin. However, throwing the lid off isn't too difficult, and as you step out of your own grave, you'll find yourself standing in a cemetery behind a large mansion, where an iron gate stands between you and the entrance. Thankfully, the moment you approach, dirty and tired as you are, the gate swings open, and you're allowed immediate entrance into the mansion.

The mansion itself is a little dusty, and the furnishings are vintage at best, but... hey, it's home. Why don't you explore a little?

★

FIRST FLOOR.

★ On the first floor is a parlor and sitting area. On one of the tables is a phone, which as of Week 3, Saturday has a dial tone and can be used to contact hotel staff. In addition to that is a kitchen stocked with food - not to mention a large wine cellar full to the bursting with every kind of wine you could imagine. Vintage!

★ Walking down a long hallway, you'll find a laundry room with a washbin and a washboard, a few closets full of dusty old clothes, a large library, and an ornate dining room with a crystal chandelier.

Of note, the dining room in particular has a very tall wall of what look like portraits to one side. If you walk closer, however, you may notice that the portraits are moving - and appear to actually be holding black and white images of your friends (and enemies?) back in the hotel, so you can monitor their activities. That's nice!

★ At the very end of the first floor hallway is another door - this one is locked with a padlock. It has a message painted on the door.... Don't dead? Anyway, it seems you can't check just stroll in there! From the looks of it it would be ill-advised to attempt to break in. Occasionally there are muffled shrieks coming from beyond the door. Hmm!

SECOND FLOOR.

★ On the second floor of the mansion is a series of bedrooms. Just like the hotel, you'll find a room already booked with your name on a nameplate on the door - and a portrait of yourself, as well as your hostage, hanging just above the nameplate. The inside of the rooms are simple - a bed with red covers, a desk with a typewriter, and a small bathroom with a toilet and a clawfoot tub. Provided that you didn't give your belongings away, you'll find all of them on your bed, waiting for you upon your arrival.

★ A dumbwaiter sits at the end of the hallway of bedrooms. Inside of it is a typewriter, and a golden bell labeled as Virgo's. A small sign above the dumbwaiter says: PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT STAFF BY LEAVING A MESSAGE. VIRGO MAY ALSO BE SENT A TIP AND RUNG. PULL THE LEVER TO PRESS SEND. - STAFF

It seems you can reach out to the hotel staff by leaving a message or ringing the bell, though your options are limited for the latter. Sure enough, a lever in the wall next to the dumbwaiter is currently set to the "down" position. Push it to "up" and watch your message disappear.

★ Beside the dumbwaiter is one last bedroom. This room is marked with a plaque that says "Dream Suite", and has several familiar constellations decorating the door. Occasionally, when you ring the bell by the dumbwaiter while thinking of a member of Hotel Staff on the living side, the corresponding constellation on the door will light up, and you'll feel as though you should walk in. Inside, there is a line of comfortable beds. Lie down in one, and you'll have a dreamlike "in person" audience with the NPC you had attempted to contact.

★

OUTDOORS.

★ Outside of the mansion is a small garage. The ground here is worn down and thin, and you can almost make out what look like railroad tracks embedded in the dirt. Inside of the garage is a rattly old car that moves along those little railroad tracks, from the garage to the mansion front, and then back all the way around to the cemetery.

★ The cemetery where you first awaken is a direct copy of the cemetery outside of the hotel - right down to the placement of statues, mausoleums, and the creepy atmosphere. Your grave remains after you wake up in it, in case you want to take a dirt nap.

DINING ROOM
► The portraits lining the wall of the dining room now have record players set under them. Turning one on while watching the portraits will enable you to hear what the living are saying. Additionally, there is a record which can be played for new arrivals, though you get the sense you shouldn't let hotel staff know about it.

WEEK ONE, SATURDAY

CEMETERY
► Flower garlands have been used to decorate the headstones and flower arrangements have been used to decorate the gates. They seem to be made of flowers that were coughed up during the week.

WEEK TWO, SATURDAY

DREAM SUITE
► The Dream Suite is operational! If you ring the bell at the dumbwaiter while thinking of a living NPC, their constellation will light up on the Dream Suite's door and you will be compelled to walk inside. Take a nap there and have a dreamlike, "in-person" audience with them!

► THE GROUNDS
Flowers are growing where they planted their seeds during the week! You may also now send bouquets made of what you've grown to the living.

WEEK THREE, FRIDAY

THE GROUNDS
► A "bumper cars" rink has been made by clearing out all of the rocks, weeds and grass in a sizeable area. There are some small slopes and dips, and a bumper barrier along the outside of the rink which was made by piling up compacted dead leaves from the graveyard. There are two "cars": laundry baskets that have rudimentary jar lid wheels with ladle axles and nails stolen from a dining room chair. They have been padded with some old clothing, like that will save anyone. Since we don't have electricity in hell, each "car" has one paddle made from tree branches broken down into the appropriate size, presumably used to push the cars around.

WEEK THREE, SATURDAY

PARLOR/SITTING ROOM
► The phone is now functioning. The dead can make phone-call audience requests to the hotel staff - they will reach whoever is available at the time, not any specific member of staff.

[Sieghart shoves the lid off and sits upright with a cough. What a frightful experience that was. He can't say that he didn't deserve it after everything he did, but knowing does little to uplift his weary mind. Of course he'd fall twenty feet and wake up six feet under.

Before the iron gate that separates him from the entrance, he sighs. Then he shakes his head and steps forth. The gate swings open, and he enters the mansion.

This place definitely belongs to the dead. He wanders the parlor and gravitates to the table with the phone, whose receiver he raises to his right ear. Nothing. He switches to his left ear. Nothing. The receiver returns to its proper place with a click. So he isn't still deaf in his right ear after that fountain pen fiasco; good to know.]

ANYWAY!! There's the sound of a set of feet hurrying up behind Sieghart as he's trying the phone! Maybe it's Flayn coming to take her revenge?? Except before long, a somewhat gentle voice calls out across the space in the foyer, and it is distinctly not a Flayn-sounding voice:]

Oh—! I wasn't sure when you'd get here...! I was hoping to meet you out there-- The cemetery, right? Is that where you woke up? I haven't even finished cooking yet-- Ah, actually, are you even hungry, Sie-- Sigh... Si-san?

MINI EVENT.

It's a nice, peaceful Wednesday in the mansion of the dead.

At least, until Virgo rudely bursts into the parlor and sitting area, dragging a bunch of record players and boxes of records behind them. They're small enough that they can be put on the tables, and they do that unceremoniously, grumbling. Once that's done, they yell at the top of their lungs -

"HEY! BOTH OF YOU ASSHOLES, GET IN HERE!"

- even if Sieghart and Souji are already there.

Once they've gotten themselves situated, Virgo doesn't even bother with a hello before launching right into it.

"These are all fucking broken! Can you believe it? Expecting me to just sit around here waiting for shit without any music? You're all dead so whatever, but I deserve nice things. So! You're going to fix it up and maybe this place will be less of a dump while I'm stuck here babysitting you bastards!"

...and, well. That's that, apparently? They point at the record players and the records.

"Get to work!"

However, while they're working on it, they may run into the following obstacles...

✦ Some of the record players don't have enough of their pieces on the inside; others have too many stuffed in. They'll have to sort out what goes where and get it into the right place.

✧ When testing the record players, some of the records start off playing music they will recognize from their homeworlds. However, they may begin skipping, and once the skipping stops the music has changed into something hellish and nightmarish to hear, with the undertones of the original song.

✦ Some of the records seem to be recordings of conversations than recordings of music. You will recognize the voices - they will be people you knew in the past who are not here now, having conversations that actually happened (i.e. conversations between characters from your canon or conversations between characters from your past game, even if your character wasn't present to hear them). Apparently, it is not just the Starlight Hotel that their host watches.

✧ Some of the records seem to play normally, but the recording is slightly Off in a way you can't quite pinpoint, and listening to it fills you with dread. The longer you listen, the deeper and more intense the dread becomes.

Their task will be considered complete when they are able to play a record from start to finish without any skipping, changes into horrifying sounds, amplified feelings of dread, or the like.

Welcome to your first graveyard mini-event! These will normally go up on Mondays; however, this week it was pushed back to give Souji and Sieghart time to acclimate to being in the graveyard.

To receive a prize for the mini-event, the mods would like to see your characters ICly complete the task they were given. How they get there is completely up to you! A thread should be at least 10 comments long before reaching that point, but after 10 comments you can turn it in whenever your objective has been met. Be creative and most importantly, have fun!

Mini-event threads should be turned in no later than Friday, 8pm EST to receive rewards. Rewards may not be given individually; rather, these will be things that will benefit the graveyard as a whole.

[with the record players repaired, sieghart and souji will find that, on friday, they have been set out under the portraits that show them images of the living side. activating the record players - which all have a record set on them already - while watching the portraits will, from now on, enable them to hear what is being said by the living rather than merely observing.

additionally, the first time they try using a record player, they will note that the record set in has a star decorating its center. what it plays for them is not the sound on the living side, but something else entirely -

the recording begins with static - static that, when it reaches your ears, is vaguely painful and fills you with dread. then the static fades to a low hum, vaguely there in the background, but quiet enough that you can hear the vague rustling of papers and what's being said over it.

the voice that rings out is deep and rumbling, but also light and airy; it is everything you can think of and nothing you can put your finger on, all at once.]

He has a weird, old-friends type of relationship with death; it hasn't frightened him in ages.

HOWEVER. This sure is bad news for the people who probably are more insistent on being alived, so his brow is furrowed by the time the wave of dread passes and the record drops back into silence again.

After a beat:] ...I don't suppose I'm the only one who thinks it strange that this found its way to us in spite of a watchful host that can track us across various timelines and worlds, yes?

MINI EVENT.

Happy Monday, deadzos! Hopefully you've had some time to get settled in. Unfortunately, the peace(?) of the new week is shattered by Virgo, once again. This time, they're in the second-floor hallway where all of the bedrooms are, yelling at the top of their lungs while all of you are probably trying to get some rest. You can sleep now that you're dead, after all.

"HEY! EVERYBODY WAKE THE FUCK UP RIGHT NOW!"

They will, unfortunately, keep yelling until all three of you are there, and once again, they don't really bother with a hello. This time, they've got a few spray bottles, some seed packets, and some gardening tools.

"We've got two problems that you bastards have to fix this week. And it's not like I want them fixed because this place should be nicer for you or anything! Who the fuck cares about that? You're dead! But I deserve nice things since I'm stuck here watching all of you."

They cross their arms and - well, you can't see it, because of the veil, but you get the sense that they're glaring.

"There are monsters under the beds and who the fuck can sleep with that shit going on? Get rid of them. Also, the grounds look gross. Make them look pretty." A beat. "What are you waiting for? Get to work!"

When they're working on these tasks, they will run into the following obstacles...

✦ The monsters under the bed seem to know exactly what scares you the most, and will change themselves to reflect that. You will have to overcome your worst fears if you hope to defeat them... if you're fighting them alone, that is.

✧ The spray bottles are labeled "Monster Repellent". Spraying the monsters with these will actually repel them, but it won't force them to disappear; rather, they'll try to hide. You'll have to track them to other parts of the mansion or herd them into an area that's easier to manage.

✦ There are weeds on the grounds already. They don't seem to want to go anywhere - in fact, the weeds themselves will lengthen, become aggressive, and try to attack you when you are trying to clear them away to plant. You'll have to defeat them to clear space.

✧ Once you've managed to get the seeds planted, you will need to come back and water them occasionally. Don't forget, now.

The gang has had a time fighting monsters under the bed and dealing with the most annoying weeds ever, haven't they? (Thanks for your hard work, Saizo!)

But the place is a bit nicer, now.

Outside, the area where they planted seeds has sprouted to life with a wide variety of flowers. Supplies to maintain the plants are nearby, as well as supplies to pull them into bouquets and tie them off. Perhaps, if you send them up in the dumbwaiter, they might make it to an intended recipient's room...?

Also, it appears that the renovations on the Dream Suite have finished. The sign is gone, and now, when you ring the bell by the dumbwaiter while thinking of a member of Hotel Staff on the living side, the corresponding constellation on the door will light up, and you'll feel as though you should walk in. But right then and there, as realization dawns upon him, Alphinaud stops moving forward, instead leaning back against the iron gate. There's a tremble in his shoulders, both hands pressed against his face.

Souji, who tends to alter his approach to suit whoever he's approaching in the first place, instantly decides to handle this with a little less of his usual vigor. He can't blame the dude for being stressed! He was straight-up murdered! This is the first murder victim they've seen here, wow. Wild.

Anyway, there's a little pig shuffling over to Alphinaud's feet sooner or later, giving him a little nudge and making a sympathetic pig sound. It sounds like bukii. It stares up at Alphinaud soulfully...]

[ Well.

As soon as Bucky crawls out of his grave and gets a hold of his bearings, his expression will turn from curious...to furious.

He clenches a fist and with a roar, unleashes the strongest punch he can right into his own headstone. It, of course, does nothing and accomplishes nothing. So Bucky sags, fist still up against the headstone, and covers his face with his other hand. ]

[ercnerd]

[If no one else, today's arrivals are wholly entitled to what they feel. Sieghart is slow to approach, hanging back by the gates through Bucky's initial series of reactions upon exiting the grave. Another moment passes, and then he moves to close the gap.

The dead experience the effects of the living just as much. Sieghart's figure is covered in patches of ice while his eyes emit a soft yet piercing blue glow.]

. . . Hey. Looks like you're awake.

WEEK THREE, MONDAY

MINI EVENT.

It's a new day, and a new week. And... it seems that Virgo has some new complaints. There's loud swearing coming from the parlor and sitting area, and upon entering the room - you'll find that they're sitting at a chair next to the table the useless phone is sitting on. They appear to be picking it up, listening, not hearing anything they like, and slamming it roughly down before cursing again.

When they notice you, they cross their arms.

"About fucking time! Okay, I've got another task for you. And again - it is not because I want this place to be nicer for you guys, I don't fucking care, it's to make things easier for me. If it turns out to make things easier for you, too, that's just a coincidence."

With a huff, they glare daggers at the phone.

"Something is interfering with this thing. It probably has to do with wires or something, I don't fucking know. Figure it out, and maybe we can get this shit working again." A beat. "What the fuck are you looking at me for? This isn't the hotel, it's not my fucking job to fix things for you! You'll know it's done when you pick it up and it makes a ... what the fuck did they call it? A dial tone or whatever!"

When they're working on this task, they will run into the following obstacles...

✦ The wires in question are hidden where you wouldn't expect them to be. Exactly where they are is up to you, but they should be somewhere unexpected. Once found, they'll be twisted up horribly, damaged, or otherwise impaired - it will be up to you to get the things that need to be connected properly fixed up.

✧ How did they get damaged, you might ask? The answer becomes fairly obvious - as you're going around searching for the things you need to repair, you'll encounter shadowlike creatures that are locating the wires and ripping them up. They will need to be disposed of in some way, or else they will continue to break the things you've already fixed.

✦ You will hear a dial tone only once all of the shadowlike creatures have been exterminated and the wires are all fully repaired. Picking up while both objectives remain unmet will result in silence; picking up when only one of the objectives has been met will result in a sharp, staticky sound in your ear which fills you with an unshakeable sense of dread.

[Souji's in and out of the kitchen EVEN MORE THAN USUAL because... they're....... probably going to be getting at least three people in, most likely four if no more zombie revives strike, so. Like. Cooking!! Lots of cooking to be done!!

He's also bringing out snacks for the peanut gallery because of course he is, glancing over just in time to catch that.]

WEEK 3, SATURDAY

What a week, huh? None of you are trained in phone repair at all, and yet, it seems you've managed.

...because, as the trial is winding down on Saturday and Kazunari is driven away in a golf cart, the phone on the table in the parlor and sitting area begins to ring. It will continue ringing until someone picks it up, at which point a distant, somewhat spooky-sounding voice will whisper:

"Your service has been connected."

As of now, the dead can use the phone to make phone-call audience requests to Hotel Staff. This will connect them with whichever staff member is available at the time, rather than a staff member of their choosing.

They may want to keep an ear out for incoming calls, too...

[ rising from a grave is not something this actor vibes with. as soon as he's free, he makes a beeline for the mansion to get as far away from it as he can, numbly taking everything in until he makes it to the mansion's second floor.

when he sees kumon's picture, he steps away until his back hits the wall, and slides to the floor, pressing the heels of his hands against his eyes.

he should really do this inside but damb, sometimes you just have too many feelings. ]

[Languid footfalls sound as Sieghart approaches. He doesn't get too close, lest he crowd someone who's already overwhelmed.]

Oh, you've already made it this far? That's what happens when Souji isn't running around, I suppose . . .

a closer inspection will find him either in the library or at the typewriter in his room, just past the portrait of the valkyrie-like woman on the door. he's already hard at work, it seems, scribbling furiously onto loose pieces of paper without any seeming regard for his surroundings. there's no rest to be had for a scientist in times like these!

occasionally, especially as he finds himself deep in one of the countless tomes the library has to offer—and even as he writes with a free hand, too— he reaches into one of his pockets to pull out his knife, now clean of his own blood, flicking it open and closed like the repetitive motion is the only thing keeping him grounded. ]

[There's a knock on the wood of a shelf as Sieghart announces himself in the library.]

Hey. Mind lending us a hand?

WK3 - SUNDAY.

[ You really had to make him crawl out of a grave, which means even in death, he can't escape this hotel slamming every single goddamn trauma button he has. You know I memshared that to at least two people?

Anyway, the coffin lid moves, and an expectedly large body rises out of it.

He doesn't say anything though, just chills in said coffin. What up.

Alternatively, you can find him post-revival just kind of hanging out awkwardly somewhere if we don't wanna just talk in his dumb new grave. Like, legitimately, he himself doesn't seem awkward at all, but the vibes are Off. ]

[Sieghart walks over to the coffin once he catches sight of the body. What up.]

A NORMAL, AVERAGE SUNDAY.... 1/3

[ As the evening draws near, hopefully the newly dead are all nicely settled in, yes? Good, good. Should anyone happen to be near the graves, then, you might notice an unusual disturbance.

The lid to Sieghart's coffin shuffles a little, and behind it are some muffled, yet panicked voices. But before you know it, the lid is kicked opened, and the first person to come scrambling out of it is none other than Alphinaud. ]

S—someone, please! Assist them back inside! We will need spare sheets!

[ Though he climbs out and seems to be mostly okay, it's pretty obvious Alphinaud went through the wringer himself. His usual attire is... very torn open, and very, very bloody, mostly around the front and back of his torso, exposing what were probably once large, gaping wounds that somehow seem to be mostly healed? Healed, but quite scarred. The area around his right eye also seems to be heavily scarred over, as well. But it's fine, it's fine. Ignore how he winces when moving about. ]

[HELLO there's a wholeass stranger crawling out of this coffin next. Or a stranger to like, now half of the graveyard, anyway...

He's also in a pretty rough state! You know that scene from the Fall of the House of Usher where the girl just wholeass busts out of the wall after being entombed alive and is just super gnarly looking?? That's happening here. Like Alphinaud, his clothing is tattered and bloody, and the many gashes decorating his body seem to have healed to varying degrees of "only partially". Enough that he's not at risk of dying (AGAIN???), but he sure is pale and a little shaky! It's fine, it's fine, he's been through worse. He just coughs a handful of blood up but that's fine, too. HIS INSIDE BLOOD.

He'll worry about that later, though.]

Ah— Wait--

[After he's done fckin deadman crawling his way out and back to the surrounding dirt, he turns to offer a hand back toward the grave they've just zombied their way out of. AGAIN.]

[ so zuko's going to be just. in the coffin for a good long while, because it turns out getting burned to death when you already have fire baggage is just a tidge traumatizing!! you may hear him making noises of distress or some such from inside the grave ]

[ alternatively, if you don't wanna deal with that shit, you can find him wandering the grounds, looking at the bumpercars dubiously, in the kitchen, or library ]

So this is the.... dead place..... I expected monsters or something.

[He hears the noises, which means Zuko is awake and kicking, so Sieghart waits a brief moment before knocking twice on the lid of Zuko's coffin.]

WEEK FOUR, MONDAY

MINI EVENT.

It's a new day, a new week, and... the phone is ringing? It is ringing off the hook. Virgo picks it up, listens to something, and then - slams it back down, disgusted.

"HEY! ALL OF YOU GET IN HERE RIGHT NOW!"

Once everyone is gathered, Virgo rubs at their head and gestures at the phone.

"This keeps fucking ringing, and it's just... some idiot breathing on the other line. I don't know what the fuck is going on. You guys figure out what's causing it so we can have some peace and quiet. If you find someone making calls from... somewhere... do me a favor and kick their ass."

When they're working on this task, they will run into the following obstacles...

✦ Something is clearly afoot here. As you are wandering around the mansion trying to identify what might be going on - perhaps checking some of the places you found wires, last time? - you will suddenly feel as though you have been attacked in some way. You will black out, and then come alive again, looking at... your own corpse. Looks like you've been murdered! Huh.

✧ Evidence appears at the "crime scenes". There is something that could feasibly be damning evidence for each one of you, though at times while you are examining it the evidence will be overcome with shadows and you'll find yourself holding something horrifying, instead.

✦ As it turns out, the call is coming from inside the house. One of you is the killer. The phone calls will only stop once an accusation has been made against the culprit and a majority of you agree with it. Once the vote is concluded, all of the weirdness will stop - no more sudden murder attempts, no more looking at your own corpses, no more weirdly shadowy evidence.

Week 4: Monday - MEETING

[Whether or not imitation corpses are still scattered across the mansion, one shouldn't skip a meal. Come dinnertime, Sieghart takes his seat between Souji and a vacancy before clearing his throat.]

Let's talk about dreams, shall we?

The week I was possessed, I had recurring nightmares of three particular guests until the night I took Flayn's life. I couldn't say anything then; however, those three people were always in anguish when I closed my eyes. I don't know whether the nature of the dreams is the same for everyone, but it sounds like those taken by the shadow are subjected to them.

[He pauses there, seemingly waiting for someone else to pick up the slack . . . ]

[That someone is Souji, who's dutifully laid out a very nice meal for everyone! Anyone who's told him a food preference will find that among the dishes, even if it's just a vague "savory" or "sweet". SO MANY PEOPLE HERE JUST GO "I'M NOT PICKY" he's going to beat everyone up. Did he make a little too much? Maybe, but that's fine. He stress-cooks and he's had a lot of stress since Sunday.

He'll glance over toward Sieghart though, before continuing.]

...I also wanted to share a dream that I had, before waking up here. I had quite a few of them, but there's only one that I remember very clearly... I couldn't see anything - I was surrounded by shadows, and I was hungry, but satisfied? There was a meal for me that I was supposed to wait before eating, and I wanted to sneak a bite, but I felt this pain in the back of my head before I could. After that, all I recall are the sound of chains and something heavy being dragged, and some sort of rumbling sound.

[He was the vore all along.......

But after that, the somberness and mild nervousness seems to dissipate in the face of HYPE.]

Ah—! By the way, it seems the living may be able to contact us through that phone now. Only for short periods of time, but... Tsurumaru-san called just a bit earlier. He says hello to everyone! They don't have much to share right now, but they were getting concerned because they hadn't heard from us yet, so...

[Clearly Virgo is eating their letters.]
