With a 17, Rin learns the Great Calamity is the moon, and that it attacks every year. This year's attack seemed particularly brutal, but nobody's really sure of why that was. The people who don't trust the wizards believe it's the wizards doing. They think the Sage's wizards didn't fight hard enough. That's why there's been so much more destruction than usual.
The people who do trust the wizards believe that it just happens sometimes. They don't have full access to the historical records (nobody seems to).

She does see that the two long tables have been cleared of all the items. Where they once sat, there's piles of food. Though, oddly, some of it seems decorative. There is a styrofoam apple with a chunk out like somebody tried to eat it.
It's beginning to grow dark outside.
For Shinobu, there are interesting and well put together flower arrangements on some of the tables. Others have candle holders made of silver with lit candles. Some of the decorations seem to be in shades of yellow, with a specific crest. There is a chandelier with lit candles up on the ceiling. If she's looking around, she's notice there's absolutely nothing moon shaped in this room.
It really seems like this entire party was set up for the Sage's wizards, as a celebration of holding off the Great Calamity.
The old fuck that Rin has stepped up to is somebody with regal bearing, and is in fact, one of the other people who is getting some attention. (For Shinobu, the the six pointed star medal, is the crest she's seeing on the decorations.) He seems to be a prince of this castle. He only looks at him for a moment, before looking away.
Beside him, there is the knight captain, who also looks disdainfully at Rin. The knight captain is attending this event lightly armored.
The knight speaks, sounding as disdainful as the prince looks.]
Stop acting as if you're the victim. Wizards are the only ones who posses such terrifying power. Nothing a human does can ever hope to match it. How would we approach the moon, with no way to fly?
