they try for something else. simpler, maybe, something familiar - they pull out an apple and a cutting board, then summon a knife from their sleeve hammer space. their back stays to lup as they do this, but she can hear the rhythmic sound of a knife on a cutting board, after a moment or two. their tone stays calm and soft. ]

Oh, sure, all the time. We had to learn somehow. Uh - one time we forgot a pie in the oven at our aunt's, and it exploded. Literally. I'm still not sure how that happened.
at that, they snicker and start laughing - this time, she can see aquila's shoulders are shaking with the motion, like they're trying to keep it back a little. ]

[ there's a smile in their voice, though, as they duck their head a little. ]
Someone cooked me for me when I was having a shit day. I never forgot it. [ they lean against the counter, waving a hand so the kitchen knife disappears. maybe it's the thought that counts. ]
I definitely suck at it, you're right. So - I can't really cook for you, but if you ever want to see a couple of carved fruit flowers, that I can handle anytime. [ there's a jokey tone there, but they do mean it. ]

they glance up to look at her for a moment, and. they definitely, absolutely, do not panic, even a little bit when they see that it looks like she's about to cry. oh god. ]
... maybe after a snack, might be a good idea to lay down for a bit.
[ definitely. they nod, then, and step up to the counter, then pick up the last apple bunny and hand it to her - and then sweep her up in their arms. lup weighs like twelve pounds so it's pretty much effortless, and their grip is secure and steady. ]
Don't wiggle too much. [ lightly, but, she might feel like it would take a lot of wiggling to shake their hold. off they go! ]
[she's startled by this, and she lets out a noise to reflect it, like she didn't just ask to be carried. she doesn't wiggle, but it does take her a second to relax.
... she's so exhausted that she might actually fall asleep with them carrying her? there's something soothing about it.]
