OPERATOR.

OPERATOR
Today, when Tsurumaru is in his bedroom, he will receive a message on his typewriter.
Sorry for the interruption in your routine, but your presence is required.
Immediately after he finishes reading the message, he will feel compelled to walk into the elevator, inside which a shadowy elevator attendant appears as a guide. Once he arrives at the destination, he will find himself in a room.
The room looks to be a control area, one wall lined with machinery covered in panels and unlabeled buttons and switches; pushing or pulling them doesn't appear to do anything, however. Prominently, a number of phones are hooked up to the wall as well, with lights on or off to signify their active state.
Cetus is leaning against a different wall, but they hold up a hand in friendly acknowledgment when Tsurumaru enters.
"We don't want you gone for too long, so I'll be getting straight to the point."
They walk over to Tsurumaru and hand him a pen and a paper that reads PARTICIPATION CONTRACT: ADDENDUM.
"Read it carefully and sign it, if you would."
RULES
1. Once a week, the Operator will be required to oversee phone operations in the hotel.
2. The Operator will be given a choice between the available lines to tap into.
3. The Operator will be able to hear a conversation, the nature of which depends on the line chosen.
4. The Operator is not to disclose that they are performing these duties. Discussing them with anyone other than authorized Hotel Staff will be considered breach of contract and will result in the death of LILI AN.

I have a question. How can I really use everything I learn here? Is it just going to be eavesdropping and potentially not being able to do anything with what I learn?
no subject
[they cross their arms, as though thinking.]
Well, I can't really give you ideas, but... how would you use it, if given the freedom?

As said, I cannot advise you on anything. I can only respond to anything you might suggest or request.

... Such a thing wouldn't have been possible before, when you just started. However, as you've been working hard enough...
[well. they have tsuru's contract addendum right here since he asked to see his contract, so. they write out another section on it.]
5. In acknowledgment of the Operator's work, they are permitted to discuss it with one other guest in the hotel. It may not spread any further than that, or else it will be considered a breach of contract.
[they hold out the contract.]
Sign it again, if you would.

he will go and sign. ]
Thank you, Cetus.
[ the hilarity of this is that normally he would go to jiji except they had a big fight in their monday thread so now he won't do it right away. ]

Of course, you still have to be careful. If you tell anyone, don't identify who you're working with, and keep in mind that while your confidant might not be bound by the same contract as you, a misstep on their part will count as a breach for you.
[i.e. tsuru's confidant should also be careful about talking about this info/run it by the mods to be on the safe side, etc. no shouting I HEARD IT FROM A ROLE WHO I WILL NOT NAME.]
no subject
I will think it over before making any moves, don't worry.

Do you know whom you might tell?

I will be careful.

Okay.
[ALSO I FORGOT FRANCY BUT when tsuru read the contract
the words sounded familiar, like he'd read them before; additionally, the signature at the bottom matches his own perfectly. he would know instinctively that this is the contract that he signed, and that he is bound by its terms.]
