GRAVEKEEPER

Today, when Jason is in his bedroom, he will receive a message on his typewriter.

Are we interrupting? Well, whatever. Your presence is required at the moment. Hope you aren't afraid of the dark.

Immediately after he finishes reading the message, he will feel compelled to walk into the elevator, inside which a shadowy elevator attendant appears as a guide. Once Jason arrives at the destination, he will find himself standing just beyond the iron fence of the graveyard.

It feels particularly eerie on this fine Tuesday - a low wind whistles through the graveyard, rustling trees no one can see, and the moon is shining high and bright overhead.

Standing tall and proud is Orion, holding a shovel in their hands, the spade of it touching the ground. They don't seem to have much to say, simply glancing from Jason over to their companion. With them is Aquarius, seated on top of a gravestone to be just slightly taller than Orion. They, too, have a shovel in their hands, the spade resting against their shoulder.

"Thanks for coming," Aquarius says in a tone that implies they're aware it wasn't by choice.

Orion reaches into their uniform, and pulls out a sheath of papers, and speaks.

"...You've been tasked with an additional duty. Read the contract between the lines, but - keep in mind that there will be consequences if you choose to disagree."

RULES

1. The Gravekeeper is required to keep maintenance of the graves in the graveyard.
2. On Tuesday, the Gravekeeper will select one participant to remove from the hotel to ensure a proper fit to the open graves available.
2A: The Gravekeeper may occasionally have an additional selection made for them, per the discretion of hotel staff.
3. Interference can only be done through the tools of the Gravekeeper trade. The interlopers will not be aware of your interference.
4. The interlopers will be placed into boxes Thursday evening and dealt with accordingly.
5. On Friday morning, the interlopers will be released from their boxes.
6. The Gravekeeper must make their decision as to their power by Thursday evening.
7. The Gravekeeper is not to disclose that they are performing these duties. Discussing them with anyone other than authorized Hotel Staff, including the interlopers, will be considered breach of contract and will result in the death of ROY HARPER.

THURSDAY NIGHT....

[On Thursday evening shortly after everyone has fallen asleep, Jason finds himself awake. He is unable to see much in his surroundings, but he will feel two hands on his shoulders and a shovel pressed into his own hands. Aquarius and Orion will guide him through the hotel in the pitch black to seek out Claude, Kim Dokja, and Mikazuki. They will be awake, but they will not be able to see him or the staff.

As per the rules, interference can only be done through the tools of the Gravekeeper trade.

The moment Jason knocks them out and carries them to the cemetery, he will find himself overwhelmed with drowsiness. After cleaning up, the staff will escort him back to his curfew location and he will fall asleep once more.

[Aquarius sits on the gravestone as Orion stands next to them, if you wish to speak to them.]

[HE TRULY HATES THIS GRAVEYARD!!! He wrinkles his nose. His hair is standing up, but he is acting cool as a cucumber, it's fine. What does he get mad about first: the graveyard, the duty, or ROY HARPER being in the fine print?]

This really isn't going to hurt anyone?

[aquarius shrugs a little at that, glancing behind them for a moment before facing jason again.]

Yeah, well...who better than someone with some experience?

[He isn't laughing.]

About as funny as holding Roy over my head.

Think it might be better to direct some of the anger into the task instead? We're just here to facilitate.

But oh. Nothing's stopping you. If you really want to, you could box yourself and take another trip six feet under. But I wouldn't advise doing that every time you have to pick.

[they let him rant for a bit. and then they choose not to address any of that.]

Hm. Would you prefer if you had a partner?

No way. That last bastard ratted me out and got me killed. Though I guess the threat of a hostage would have kept his mouth shut probably.

So if this isn't a guarantee, what happens if... you know, something happens? How are the others going to be able to find them? After. I'm not even going to ask what B.S. can happen to let someone find them in the hole to start with.

[one of their heels idly kicks against the gravestone, just once.]

"Probably." [they shrug again.] If something happens, something happens. You'll see the outcome if it ever does. I wouldn't worry much about that right now.

You guys are always the worst help I've ever met for hotel staff.

[This is just a mild grumble.]

Why are the other two on there already? Kim and Mikazuki.

That depends - hurt is subjective. Each situation may be a bit different.

Not too reassuring. That's a lot of people going into boxes. What's going to happen to them?

Or is it that something doesn't happen to them?

Well. The boxes can be something of a detriment. An obstacle, though not a complete obstruction.

What I mean is, putting people in the box helps, right? In theory.

[Frowning at the graveyard.]

Why does it sound so damn ominous as "dealt with accordingly"? If this is meant to help, why is it such a punishment? You think people want to be "dead"?

If you think there's a benefit to what you will do on Thursday nights relating to this position, that's something you have to get to on your own. We're just the messengers.

I assume I'm meant to pick different people each week more than likely?

You can repeat, but it can't be back to back. So, were you to choose someone this week, you can't choose them next week, but you could the week after.
