LOCATIONS

GROUND FLOOR: LOBBY.
1, 2, 3.
The main lobby of the Starlight Hotel is, in a word, opulent. Massive vaulted ceilings overhead display a picturesque mural of the night sky that seems to twinkle of its own volition, constellations occasionally blinking into familiar shapes you'd recognize from home. The floor under your feet is polished marble, and a plush, dark red carpet covers the way from the entrance to the circular main lobby, where a chair and three golden luggage carts await to move guests from place to place, and a curious set of golden bells sit awaiting your attention.

Large, arched windows line the outer walls of the lobby - though looking out of them only shows a picturesque view that never seems to change - and various nooks of seating are placed here and there, all in plush velvet and fine wood, from comfortable armchairs to a swooning couch or two. A fireplace crackles in one of these tucked away nooks, and soft music plays as if from a distant room.

On either side of the main lobby are two large golden staircases that ascend to an upper level: a small sign at the base of the stairs says: GUEST ROOMS.

Each room in the hotel has a typewriter that is used for messaging capabilities! Please see this FAQ for information.

Each room in the hotel also has a telephone! Each telephone has a dial tone, but right now, it seems you can only call the front desk: any other number you dial just results in an error tone.

There are several areas to explore on the ground floor, too, including...

★
GIFT SHOP.

To the left of the lobby, near the entrance, is an oak door bearing a plaque that reads Gift Shop. Entering inside, you are greeted with... a gift shop! There's an array of products displaying the name of the Starlight Hotel here for purchase - from mugs to snowglobes to every kind of fashion you can imagine, though each is emblazoned with the hotel's name or SH monogram. If you're interested in trying on clothes, there's even a small dressing room with a curtain just off to the back of the shop.

One wall is lined with a case of expensive jewelry that seems impossible to open, with faded price tags stuck to the velvet each item is displayed in, and yet another has silly souvenirs, from dinosaur grabbers to sticky hands.

Curiously, one shelf seems a little different than the others - it sits front and center in the gift shop, as tall as the ceiling. Be sure to check out new items every week.

★
COURTYARD.

On the right side of the lobby, a hallway is marked with a golden plaque that reads - Courtyard & Garden This hallway ends with a set of double doors. Opening them will lead you to a beautiful, lush garden and a patio, complete with seating areas and a small walking path made of stone. There are many types of flowers present in the planters, and beautiful flowering trees provide a comfortable amount of shade for every guest to lounge in. Tea service is available in the garden, served to you by shadowy figures you can't seem to process no matter how long you look at them. Mixed in among the flowers are tasteful statues made of marble, in the shapes of animals, mythological heroes who inspired constellations, or... occasionally something a little closer to home. Sometimes, the statues look familiar - like people you may have known to be masked, hooded, or otherwise hidden in your former experiences. That's nice!

As of Week 2, five new wisteria trees are beautifully blooming in the courtyard.

The courtyard path ends at a fork in the road. While the right side appears to be open and leading into the next area, the left path, as of Sunday of Week 0, is now officially open. Swing open those iron gates.

★
CEMETERY

The formerly closed pathway to the left of the courtyard is now available, and a plaque on the iron gates reads Cemetery. Despite whatever the world looks like in the courtyard and garden, in the cemetery, it is perpetually nighttime - a cold breeze blows through a series of graves and mausoleums, leaving an austere if slightly spooky impression. You can occasionally hear the sound of a crow or raven's birdcalls, and large (yet somehow unclimbable) trees rustle ominously along with the wind. Most of the inscriptions on the tombstones are unreadable. However, as the weeks go on, you may find some to be clear...

View the tombstones?

★
POOL.

What's a hotel without a pool?

Taking the right path from the courtyard will lead you directly to the Starlight Hotel's pool deck. The pool is, as you might expect, star shaped, and fairly large. The water in the center of the pool goes down to a deep twenty feet, but the points of the star are shallow, for playful wading or fun family entertainment. Attached to the pool is a simple waterslide, that dumps you out right in the deepest area of the pool, and a diving board sits on the edge on the other side.

A small stand on the deck of the pool is stocked with clean white towels that never seem to run out, along with all your basic pool necessities - swim toys, goggles, pool noodles, and anything else you might need. There are even swimsuits, emblazoned with an appropriate starry theme. Don't forget your sunscreen!

If you're not the swimming type, don't worry. There are lounge chairs and umbrellas spread out all over the place for anyone ready to work on their tan, and when you've had enough of the pool itself, a circular hot tub sits just off to the side like a constellation. Relax, stay a while!

Just remember you follow the pool rules. Otherwise, you might hear a shrill whistle out of nowhere if you play around too much, and you don't want to get into trouble with the lifeguards, do you?

★
RESTAURANT.

To the right of one of the large staircases is a plaque over an archway that says STARSHINE'S.

Starshine's, the restaurant in the hotel lobby, is a classy joint with all the food you could ask for. Take a seat at one of the fine tables or in a plush chair, and a menu will appear in front of you. Simply ask for a meal, and within moments, it will be placed in front of you! How convenient. A shiny oak bar lines one wall, with a floor to ceiling glass case of liquor bottles just behind it, along with a cabinet of glasses, cups, plates, and other varying drinkware. You'll find, however, if you attempt to take too much liquor too early in the morning - or even order it - you'll be quickly rejected and given a cup of coffee instead. The restaurant serves breakfast in the morning, lunch and snacks in the afternoon, and then dinner every evening.

When you complete your meal, you won't receive a bill. Instead, you'll hear a voice that breezily informs you your meal will be charged to your room. That's convenient.

Attached to the restaurant is a standard restaurant kitchen with wide, swinging metal doors. The appliances here are a bit outdated and quaint, but they seem to work alright, though you'll be shooed out if you stay too long. Let the restaurant serve you! If you try to steal something from the kitchen, please inform the mods under theft and damages.

★
THEATER.

The double doors to the left of the lobby that were previously a mystery to you are now known: the plaque on the doors says STARLIGHT THEATER.

However, the red velvet rope is clipped in front of the doors. It seems that the doors are locked, during the week, and only open for Sunday matinees... though, occasionally, you can hear the clatter of what sounds like bones clacking together from outside. Huh.

★
ELEVATOR.

Behind the front desk is a large elevator covered with an ornate black gate. The elevator is... rickety and old, but it does seem to work! If you press the button to summon the elevator - it only goes up - it will creak and groan its way down to the main floor.

The inside of the elevator has one button. It simply says: "MEZZANINE". If you press it, it will take you up to the guest room floor. Please ignore the creaking: we're sure it's fine.

It looks like a new floor button will be added to the elevator each week. The elevator buttons currently available are: Mezzanine, 00, 01, 02.

★
MEZZANINE

Up the golden stairs, you'll find the mezzanine level, where all guest rooms are located. The stairs carry on beyond the mezzanine, but you can only take them up to the floors available on the elevator. Should you try and climb the stairs beyond that, a pair of hands will fall on your shoulders, and you will be "blooped" back down to the bottom, reappearing all the way at the lobby floor.

★
ENTRY DOORS

Leaving so soon? At the end of the hallway, you'll find a beautiful set of revolving doors. When you push your way through... you might end up somewhere new?
