By the power of friendship and good rolls, Sheila and Sebastian plummeting into the darkness of the night was avoided. The floor beneath them shatters while they get onto stable parts, pieces of metal falling into the emptiness and the lake hundreds of meters below, while under Zuko the walkway ends up hanging from one side, swinging in the frigid air.
The only sound heard now...is the sound of the wind and the ominous sounds of the parts of walkway swinging in the gale. There's the soft sound of bones clattering, coming from somewhere in the area, but from where they are right now the source of it doesn't seem to be visible.
Looks like you won't get ambushed by anything for a bit, the malice having moved to areas beyond. Even though it's pretty clear your future is going to have trouble at some point along the road, for now it seems you're not in impending danger.
It's dungeon adventuring time. The gate is closed, thick bars blocking the way, and there are no convenient buttons or crystals within sight to open the way. Remember the layout!
The lever jams almost right away, and the screen right in front of the left chamber trembles. At least that proves it's connected and working! But the lever keeps getting blocked.
Looking into where the lever goes into the contraption holding it, the base is shining bright orange, just like the chests from earlier did. They might remember the orange lights embedded into those chests in the room from the start turned blue and then opened.
All three levers have the same orange glow in their bases.
Umm... maybe there's an order? Like, they're all connected to different things... that are connected to each other... so how you move one probably affects how the other ones can move...?
[ he can't tell what end goal position they're looking for though... ]
Clack clack. Both levers get stuck at the same time. It seems some sort of mechanism in the bases stop the levers from moving more than an inch. Upwards, the screens connected to these levers tremble, confirming once again the connections are working properly.
There's once again a sound of rattling bones. From where they're standing, they can hear it's coming from the cubic chamber high in the air, to their right -- the one that can be accessed from the ramp.
he guesses he'll just try the lever on the right since they've tried the other two?? which, uh, hopefully is not going to set an army of skeletons loose on bradley since i guess this one's connected to the thing he's walking toward. ]
[Hmm... She tries the lever again in conjunction with Sebastian, but she doesn't really expect it to work?]
Maybe someone died up there and their body got stuck in the mechanism...? [Help. She watches Bradley go...] Shout if you run into any reanimated skeletons!
Grab that lever, Sebastian! Giving it a pull makes the last screen up there tremble -- but the result doesn't seem to be different from the other two. Seems all three levers are pretty well stuck.
While Bradley walks up the ramp, he'll catch a glimpse of the chamber at the end of it. From where he is right now, he can see something hanging from the ceiling. It's hard to see while going upwards, but it definitely looks mechanical in nature!
The sound of rattling bones while he's going up stops for a moment, before something appears from under the ramp behind Bradley. It's a couple skulls belonging to some sort of monster, larger than his own head! Thanks to a roll of [13] it appears stealthily, but the noise of them opening their jaws to try to clamp onto Bradley's neck makes enough noise to have some warning. Watch out!
[ well HE WILL RUN OVER IN THAT DIRECTION AND TRY TO FIRE SOME FIREBALLS FROM HIS MAGIC FIRE WAND AT THE SKULLS?? since that seems, uh, safer than bombs.
and somehow... this luck streak has kept up and he got a 19, so i guess it's probably hitting them?? ]
Sheila's fist punches a skull, but it turns out to be the wrong skull because it's Bradley's skull, hitting him right on the cheekbone.
That punch is pretty much insult to injury -- the skull clinging to his neck begins to press hard, biting as deeply as it can -- [9] -- drawing blood but unable to get a grip that would allow it to cause really dangerous damage, but it keeps pressing on, cutting Bradley's breath somewhat, a clear warning he's in serious danger if it stays attached to him!
The other skull, though, leaves Bradley alone, lunging at Zuko to tackle him, Sebastian's fireballs intercepting the enemy, the skull falling to the floor for a brief second before flying towards Sebastian, a tad shaky, hovering towards him with the jaws wide open!
[ um. he's ready to fire off another fireball if need be, but it seems like the skulls are maybe under control now between that 20 and 19?? so he's going to catch his breath quick and wait to find out what's up there before trying to pull any more levers... ]
Thankfully, Bradley doesn't get punched again, despite the low roll.
While Sheila grabs the skull and unsuccessfully tries to part its jaws, Zuko slices the other one to dust, the sword cleaving right through, cursed calcium breaking apart! He and Sheila struggle against the skull, slowly opening its jaws, releasing Bradley from it--
--releasing him enough for him to destroy the skull with the butt of his rifle, smashing it to pieces.
There's peace. No more sounds of evil craniums hovering in the air, nor of anything slithering in the area. Just the wind and the motors of Van Medoh propelling the machine.
Nice. Near the three on the ramp a small button pops up from the floor.
What Sebastian sees once he takes a look inside the cubic chamber, is that it's tall and featureless other than the decorations, except for one thing up on the ceiling, near the open end of the cubic chamber. It vaguely resembles a coat hanger, and the base, connected to the ceiling, is shining a deep, beautiful blue. If Sebastian were to jump with all his strength, he would be able to reach it!
The view from where he is, too, is pretty straightforward -- he can see the screen closest to this chamber, set on its rails and framed with metal. The other two probably are identical. Thing is, the wood that forms the mesh of the screen looks...prickly, so to say.
[He holds his neck for a moment, looking at his clothes. He's not in his usual outfit so he starts tearing off a sleeve to use as a bandage for his neck. Probably a bad idea to leave a wound open like that. Nothing to do about not being able to disinfect it at the moment.]

[ but once that's done, he scans the area for any potential threats, finding none, breathes a brief sigh of relief. ]
Okay, should we try those levers? They seem like they do something.
no subject
He's going towards the metal gates checking them over to see if there's give to any bars. Rusted? Still sturdy?]
Probably gotta do somethin' to the levers to get this door to open.

I think... they're supposed to move those things up there? Those screen looking things?

Anyway, Sheila frowns and approaches the levers, looking them over.]
Well... I guess should give it a shot. [Cautiously, she reaches for the leftmost lever on the handy dancy diagram.] Here goes something?
[She tries the lever!]

[Hmm... Does that mean they have to pull all of these at the same time? Or maybe there's something else about them?
He'll come over to pull the middle lever.]

[She squints, watching Bradley approach the lever. When he pulls it, she tries the leftmost lever again at the same time.]

Think something's stuck on the other side?
[Like something died where the mechanism is, and now the remains are a problem. He's gonna start walking up the ramp.]

[ fuck if he knows.

Fuck!! Fucking! Fuck!
[He rolled a 1, so they sure did clamp onto his neck!]

[ he even looks cool doing it. next, he moves on to help bradley, trying to grip it and rip it off. with a 9, he gets as far as gripping it ]
You stupid-- get OFF of him!

[He growls out when he gets punched in the face.
This is awful, actually. He takes the butt of his rifle and attempts to smash (19) it into the skull that's trying to break his neck.]

at this point just let a new skull chomp her as she pulls away, not wanting to punch Bradley again. Help..]
