i still love that team mikaikawa is in a whole other fucking timeloop and is unaware of what's going on in the mines with kdj.
so yeah. kdj gets to have biyoo, and she makes a noise of agreement before lightly bopping into his face. it's a sign of affection and comfort. trust. she trusts him to do what's best for her to save her. after a few more minutes, she starts to pull away to linger behind him in the shadows again. she's ready to follow, dokja. she'll be right behind you.
nikaido's hand slowly drops, form flickering just slightly as she watches him go. aruji's eyes follow mikazuki as well, and the two of them turn to fall in line and begin following them through the caves.
the footsteps of aruji and nikaido echo as mikazuki and aikawa walk. it's a steep incline, crystals embedded in the walls and in the pathway of the cave as they start to climb higher. aikawa's back aches, along with his lungs. jiji's leg starts to struggle to hold up his weight, the scent of smoke in his nose. but they are only partway there. they have to keep going.
biyoo, meanwhile, follows along behind dokja with content and encouraging noises. it's the only sound in the mines, a sweet kind of communication only he can really understand. the message is clear enough though. she'll stay as long as he leads. dokja, too, will begin to feel the wear and tear on his body as they climb. his skin is tight, beginning to feel stiff and hot. his hand throbs in a steady pulse, hole tearing slightly with any movement, but maybe it doesn't matter.
[ mikaikawa: can't believe we died in the mines and had to do another timeloop kdj: wait you guys died in the mines?
it's hard to let her slink back to the shadows again. he would much rather keep her in his sight, guide her by his side as he has back home. however, he trusts her. he trusts her as much as she trusts him. a strong bond that began when she first trusted him to save her soul in her previous life.
so he will move on. it's tempting to glance back and check up on her but he knows better than to fuss over her. so he doesn't look back. it's his trust that keeps him moving forward, his attention ahead. especially with her encouragement and acknowledging sounds. enough to know she's still following behind.
the pain is notable, the tear, the wear, the heat and stiffness of it but.. he really can't bring himself to care. to focus too much on that. it doesn't matter as much as that moment he found biyoo.
the first step he puts on his leg that invites a wobble - there is the slightest pause. and in that moment, there is the slightest flash of anger in his expression. destroy his body, compromise his integrity, make him question the history of his own steel - but do not ever reveal his weakness to his master.
the smoke is suffocating and this body aches, but he walks forward with all the grace of an old lord. the first falter will be the last, if only through sheer force of will.]
[ He walks and it weighs heavy and weary. Everything Nikaido knew about him was a lie, and she’s — following someone who doesn’t exist. The only thing still ‘real’ about it is that it’s the same pinky that intertwined with hers and made that promise… but if he denies these hands drove knives into the people he loves, then how can he acknowledge the other?
But he does care. He wants her to be happy. It’s just that he doesn’t think that ‘happiness’ is with him.
They walk, and he feels the pain, but it feels distant and dull like through a haze of morphine. Just don’t think about it, has ever been his coward’s solution — but he can’t deny that he hopes that he still hears those footsteps behind him, as sad or as distant as they may be.
[the mine, and the cave, both grow darker the higher they all walk.
in tandem, they continue up the incline, an act of trust, walking ahead into the dark without any idea of where they're going. the path begins to even out, less dewy or dirt-packed and smoother with each step.
the footsteps of aruji and nikaido fade away.
biyoo stops chirping at dokja.
a distant light is up ahead.
halfway there now...only silence. only darkness. only the oppressive thoughts and sheer determination of individuals wearing down piece by piece.]
[ on they go. step, after step, after step. keep going.
he has stopped paying attention to where he's stepping, his attention is partly there but mostly on the sounds behind him. sounds that come to stop.
ah. the ache in his body, the heat that runs along his limbs, the tear in his hand. his steps slow but.. he doesn't stop. he looks at the light, squinting at it after being in the darkness for who knows how long.
...a shakey sigh leaves him, trudging on. breath heavier now. he has to keep going. he has to keep going for her. it's what makes the most sense to him right now. ]
of course, there is quiet. they had been warned even just before - and yet, there comes with it the sense of anxiety. had aruji decided that this mikazuki munechika had gone too far? is this the moment in which his creator no longer deemed him to be worthy - to matter for anything at all?
it aches because he knows all too well how possible it is. and yet this is the path he always chose to walk, alone, for the sake of everyone else. for his citadel, his master, his home.
he could look back - but that might be the same as destroying everything.
but if he walks forward, as he always does, then perhaps he can rely upon that sentiment that has carried him through centuries of watching everyone he loves die: as long as he does not stop, maybe he will get to see them again.
on this last trail out of lotus island, he sings so softly, never enough to drown out any sounds of footsteps should they return, but enough to occupy the silence.]
Time after time, darkness falls. Time after time, darkness falls. Dressed in black robes. This transient duty. The waxing and waning moon. A lotus pedestal shared by two - why does it exist? A lotus pedestal to share our fate.
She’s gone, and he doesn’t know whether to feel relieved or heartbroken. Is that even the right word? For the immense guilt and the endless expanse of the emptiness he feels for his actions, directly contradicting with his heart’s truest wishes.
Somehow, he’s able to keep walking — the remnants of the little sparks of determination, some reason to keep living in his shithole existence, the experience of misery.
Some distant thought that tells him, at the least, this isn’t real — probably. That the real one is still out there, somewhere, held hostage in a ratty-ass yet extravagant hotel where everything is far more tangible than this place. Funny enough that the temptation of ‘reality’ is what convinces him to drag his feet, the sound of metal echoing over soft dirt, even as he softly wheezes with the strain in his lungs, even as black-red blood drops down his hands from under his sleeves.
His eyelids fall as he wheezes, having only the sounds of their own footsteps and soft song to accompany them.
that's the thing that's made clear as they breech the top of the slope, walking out of the darkness and into the gentle morning light. they exit into an open field, a ravine before them and the radio tower behind them.
dokja is alone. mikazuki and aikawa are nowhere to be seen, but biyoo appears before him with a happy little "baat!" before flying into his arms again. together, now, at least. the sun's warmth shines down upon them, the salty scent of the sea beginning to reach their noses as the fog rolls away. his body aches, but perhaps it doesn't matter now that she's back in his arms.
mikazuki and aikawa exit the cave. the sun is rising. they exit into an open field a ravine before them and the radio tower behind them.
nikaido holds back, but offers him a smile. even if aikawa won't accept it, she's grateful. even if he isn't the same guy...does that matter, in the end? it's hard to say.
aruji stands before his beloved sword, eyes sweeping over his appearance before a hand rests on his shoulders. the mission has been a success...he may rest well knowing everything is secured. the sun's warmth shines down upon them, the salty scent of the sea beginning to reach their noses as the fog rolls away. their injuries act up, too, but it's a dull throb more than a conscious pain just now.
they're allowed these few precious moments to watch the sun rise together...
...the radio crackles to life, and it doesn't even need to be tuned now.]
"-sometimes it makes you incredibly sad. But at least you've faced it now."
[the static whine of the radio begins to grow, louder and louder as the radio tower itself is encompassed by that same strange blue light. regardless of how they fight...they will find that their eyes are forced closed.]
[the water beneath you is dark, murky, and hard to see through. the ferry remains docked until the last member boards, and without warning you set sail.
there are no skeletons on the trip back, no shadows lingering in the crevices. it's kim dokja, mikazuki, and aikawa seated together on a bench as the propeller quietly cuts through the water to take them back onward.
they're bruised, battered, bloodied, burned and broken. several injuries piled on one another, several memories colliding in timelines that may or may not make sense...though they can't quite immediately pinpoint the emotion, they may soon recognize it as something like heartbreak.
you have a long journey ahead...but the boat seems to be sailing toward a faint, shadowy portal ahead as the sun continues to rise at dawn.]

each locket contains a photograph of a piece of your close cr or cr from home. it is yours to keep.
additionally, your characters will know that this necklace allows them to access one power from home, and that the stone will lose its light when the power is used. please run your power by your mod team so we can approve it once you've chosen one! if you do not have powers, you may speak to the mod team about your options!

kim dokja will become more rogue, less cautious in his actions. mikazuki will be more aggressive, willing to turn on his comrades. aikawa will be more determined, risking everything to finish no matter what.
