Aquila was an eagle, according to the legends I was told. It carried the god Zeus's thunderbolts through the sky, and guarded the arrows of Eros, that had struck its god and made him lovesick, to keep anyone else from being struck with them again.
[ there's something amused in their tone there, but they don't touch on it.] That's just in one culture. In another, it's a part of a quadrant, symbolized by the black tortoise who guards the North, but it's still known as a heavenly eagle. In that culture, it's tied to a more romantic story, too.
