[well. the experience he has from the simulations room makes it easy to focus on an image, a place, his eyes closed. home, with all its tall, glittering buildings and spiraling spires.]

[ and there it is! when emet opens his eyes, he'll see his dream has shaped itself exactly into his home, exactly as he's imagined it.

aquila's still there, hands folded behind his back, looking around. ]

...simple enough.

[a little more focus, a little more life into the scene-- tall, elegant trees here and there along the street, artfully shaped.

after another moment, he steps forward, wandering a little further down that path; there are birds in the trees, large ones with black feathers.]

[ frowns

aquila makes a little noise as the dream space creates itself, evolving and molding. this sort of sight doesn't ever really get old; as emet-selch walks along, aquila moves to follow, looking up at the birds.

... they make him chuckle, a little. ] Ravens, huh?

Yes.

[his voice is a little quieter, there.]

I suppose I have some fondness for them, despite the trouble they are.

[ they glance at him for a long moment, and then step up, lifting a gloved hand out towards the ravens. ]

'm fond of them, too. They're clever birds, aren't they? Probably why they're so much trouble.

[ktiseos]

They are ridiculous creatures.

[he grumbles, rolling his eyes-- but one of the birds flutters down anyway. emet holds a hand up, and it rests on his hand rather than aquila's, because sometimes he is also a little shit.]

[guestservices]

[ this makes him bark a laugh, actually. aquila sticks his hands in his pockets, amused as the bird makes itself comfortable. ]

Ridiculous creatures that like you, huh.

[ktiseos]

[dryly:]

I've never been able to rid myself of them, whether they are birds or otherwise.

[all his friends are fucking ridiculous.]

Sounds like you don't mind it that much.

I simply know when to give up.

Suuure. I think every serious, big brain kind of person needs somebody a little more lighthearted around, and the reverse is true, too. Makes a good pair.

[ aquila laughs a little, stepping back from the tree. ]

I think that I would be perfectly fine without, thank you.

[a little huff. let him LIVE.]

[ hmmm. they glance back at him, and there's something perceptive in it. ]

Are you?

[ktiseos]

I will manage, thank you.

[slightly sharper, his attention turned fully away from them to look at the stars here.]

That seems a little more accurate.

[ idly. they step back fully, folding their hands behind their back again. ]

[ktiseos]

It is no business of yours, regardless.

[he mutters with a shake of his head.]

[ hmmm. ]

Anyway. It's not like it's a bad thing to say, 'hey, I've got friends, and some of em are kinda obnoxious, but I like em that way.' Not really that embarrassing.

[ktiseos]

[god this is exactly why he hates talking to aquila but also why he keeps ending up coming back.]

It is not a matter of embarrassment. They could all stand to be less obnoxious.

Sure. Would you like em as much? I bet you'd get bored.

I daresay there would be less lines upon my brow, for one thing.

That wasn't a no.

[ something about this conversation is very amusing. ] Is there anything that doesn't put lines on your brow?

[ they laugh a little bit at that, waving a hand. ]
