Grav-con units are examples of AMP technology. AMP stands for Antimatter Manipulation Principle—as people from my world can't normally use magic, we've developed technology to simulate some of its properties. Grav-con units are pretty self-explanatory—they allow their users limited control of gravitational fields.
That's...actually kinda cool? [they sound a little impressed at least.] Really cool, actually. I don't know that many people who can use magic--[just like most of their close friends, it's fine.]--but it's kinda nice that there's another option. So that means there's other kind of AMP stuff too?

Yes. Most are limited to military use, but there are quite a few types available for civilians. I don't have it with me right now, but my boomerang is an example of AMP tech that was made available to the public—while I can throw it normally, the amplifiers allow me to control its direction midair if necessary.
I think I remember reading about that thing. You bought it when you were at Wiwaldi still, right? I don't think I've ever used a weapon like that before...
