[normally, they wouldn't comment given that yuri immediately moved on, but that doesn't seem like an "oh god do not acknowledge it" sort of memory, so.]
[ yeah. sometimes liquorice boots happen. or will happen. it’s fine. ]
Yeah, well. You know she actually went and invented an entire spell for make boots taste like liquorice? I’m not sure if she’s a complete moron or an undiscovered genius of our time.
Both would probably suit her. Even if she takes my meaning too literally.
[ he shrugs, pushing the polish bottles he wants to use across the counter. ]
Restoring her House isn’t a bad goal, but she doesn’t quite realise how much work and how much, well, boot licking she’s going to need to do with the still established nobility to make it happen peacefully. Even if I don’t literally mean “lick boots”.
It's interesting to see prideful people at work. They're often the ones who make history happen, for better or for worse—but you're right in that they can underestimate what needs to be sacrificed for that to be happen, pride included.
I’m not going to pretend I’m not prideful. I absolutely am. But it works better for me to keep my goals and dreams on the down-low, and work on them where they can’t be interrupted en masse.
The two of you are by the ocean, though only you turn your gaze towards the water, while she stares at the ground, covered in blood. When she speaks, her voice is hoarse; combined with the redness of her eyes, it doesn't take a genius to understand why.
"Are you ready?" you ask.
She responds that she doesn't have much of a choice.
She passes you a syringe, which you inject into her as the two of you continue to talk. Death is a cruel mercy, but the two of you can at least make it as painless as possible.
She takes your hand, trembling. You squeeze hers, just for a moment. As the last of her consciousness fades, she whispers to you,
"I'm sorry it had to be you."
The thought is foreign to you. A part of you cannot understand others' worry for you: a person who, by the very nature of what you are, is a killer, whether or not you want to be. Rarely does anyone ever think that you can't handle yourself, or that this is an act that will bring you pain.
Still, you think, this kindness is why you can't help but like these people.
"Rest now," you say to her unconscious self. And then, taking out your dagger, you stab her through her heart.]
[ JAN I LITERALLY STRUCK SHESS OFF MY LIST BECAUSE I WAS LIKE OH WELL HE CAN'T TALK SO-- I'M GOING TO FIGHT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA i entertained miki for like three seconds when i was shifting from alex as a choice ]
...
That seems like a mercy, but not a very pleasant one.

Anyway. I went with a lighter pink, unless you have a real hatred for that shade then we can swap it.
no subject
I'm not picky. Any shade is fine.

You certainly have interesting friends.

Mm. Things are easier when you avoid direct confrontation.
no subject
Depends on the kind of direct confrontation. There's... definitely those, but perhaps it's not so in the public eye.

True, even the underworld wouldn't be free of fights. Or assassinations, I assume?

My hands got plenty messy on the way there. But once you have the power, it’s less about the hustle and more about keeping balance.

Balance is important.

Naturally. But when it falls on one person's shoulders like that...

You must have quite the strong will, Cetus.

... I'm flattered. Though it feels like a bit of an overestimation—I've just learned how to adapt.
