Oh. Yeah, I forgot. [IT WAS LIKE 2 MINUTES AGO BUT OK

she drinks the water.]
But yeah! I want a violin. Can I have one?

[this is so funny she's super drunk but she takes the violin and immediately starts running her fingers over it. she plucks a few notes, absently, her ear flicking a few times.]

Do you, um. Do you play? [she asks, over the sounds of her tuning.]

[she just

sits on the floor. it's fine. she means to reply, but she doesn't, because she starts to play.

and it's a little clumsy, because she's drunk, but it's muscle memory, and she plays it like greeting an old friend, like living an old memory. and as she does, her features shift and settle into something a little less lichlike. she can be normal, for just a minute. alive.]

[when she finishes, she just... exhales, slowly. all the tension comes out with it.

silence, for a long moment, and then she glances up at them with a small smile.]

Think I could do some sort of task to keep this thing? [she knows it's a long shot and that they'll probably say no, but she wants to try. being able to produce her own music makes her feel some kind of way. connected, maybe.]

Yeah, I know.

[she puts the violin in her lap.] Thanks for humoring me, though. I didn't realize how much I missed playing.

[absently plucks some more notes. the room sways a bit around her, and she closes her eyes.]

I meant more uh, more listening to me play rather than giving me the thing, but I'm always unsure on what you're allowed to give out.

[an ear flick.] Anyway. Yes. It is.

Yep. Fifty or so years? Maybe, uh. Maybe... less. I can't remember, the cycles started to blur together a bit.

Huh? Oh, no. No, I mean, um, like... I was on a ship, and every year it'd reset us back to what we were physically at the start of our journey. Did a hundred of 'em.

Long story.

I could see it. Someone has to pick up the slack in the universe.
