Um. [she holds the fridge door for a long moment. give her a second to stop disassociating.]

Help. [she says, after a moment, and then she clears her throat and stares at the claws for a long moment before shaking her head.] I mean - okay. Go get me some flour.

[she's going to grab eggs.]

[eggy. but they pull away from the fridge, drifting off to go get flour and trying not to puncture a hole in the bag.]

What are we making then?

I think baking something. [she says, distracted.] I'm not the, uh, the baker, but I can do... cinnamon rolls. Those work.

[she pushes her hair out of her face and brings the eggs to the counter. while gemini brings the flour over, she gets caught up in touching her face with one hand, tracing the length of the glasgow lava.]

[they are unsuccessful at not puncturing a hole in the bag, but they're quick to cover it so flour doesn't go everywhere.

on the other hand, once they set the flour down they're reaching forward to kind of softly push her hand away from her face.]

It's not the same, Lup. It's temporary.

she startles, when they touch her, but it's not a bad startle. just her coming back to herself. she drags in a breath.]

... No, um. I know. Thank you. [she says after a moment. for just a second, she brings a hand up to touch theirs. her fingers are warm. not because of the lava, but because she's alive. she got her body back. alive, alive, alive.]

Did - did you put a hole in the flour?

[they don't pull away, but she'll get the sense their hand is also a normal temperature, and perhaps a little rough under the gloves. monstersonas, you know?

except they are looking at this bag of flour and the entire vibe is discontent. ]

It wasn't like I did it on purpose. [help. ]

[okay, but it makes her laugh - it's a little shaky, in that i am distress way, but it's a laugh, and she eases just the slightest bit after.]

Hmm. Trying to sabotage my baking, I see how it is. [she says. she pulls her hand away after a moment.] Maybe you should be in charge of the less breakable stuff.

[it's something. even just a little bit is something better than before.]

Oh, so I suppose the eggs are out as well then. [haha.] ...I'm getting used to them. It's simply a matter of being careful.

Maybe! The eggs are supposed to be broken. Just maybe not all the shells.

[she will do the eggs.] I had a friend who had to get used to the claws, too. It'll take some doing.

... It's only a week.

I suppose if the shells made their way into the mix I could just scoop them out.

[but they will let lup do it herself.]

It is only a week. [...but.] How did they get used to them?

No, absolutely not, you keep your nasty fingers out of my batter.

[she says, ear flicking. her hair shifts a little - it looks a little less like lava.]

Anyway. Don't ask that question, you don't want the answer. [the amusement in her tone suggests she's probably referring to something dirty.]

My fingers are clean! [wow? but it's not even a real protest and they will lean back against the counter to watch and only do what she wants them to do.

also. hm. yes. they decide they actually do not want to know, goodbye.]

I stand corrected, I'll figure it out on my own.

You have not washed your hands where I can see you, which means your hands are not clean!

she keeps easing, bit by bit.] Go get me some cinnamon. And butter.

They're perfectly fine! [but they do turn to fetch cinnamon and butter before rooting around for a tray to put the buns on when they're ready for the oven.]

Are we making a large batch?

Might as well. Bet a few people would appreciate them.

[she is mixing ingredients...] We can have the best ones, and then leave the rest out for scavengers.

I think that is, perhaps, the best idea. Even if they're wary I'm sure plenty of them will take free food.

[they watch her mix...]

[she laughs a little.]

The people from the station won't. [christian cake!] But, um. I don't know, is it dumb to try and inject a little joy to balance out all the awful?

Paranoid, all of them. [it sounds a little amused though.] I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to find something brighter in all of this. I believe some of them may even need it.

[as she's baking, her face is starting to shift. she's less the lava monster, and more the lich. not that she notices.]

I could use a little happiness. I got some Saturday, I guess, but it didn't last very long.

[she doesn't notice, but gemini does. they also, smartly, do not point it out just in case.]

Happiness is fleeting, I think. That would be why it's important to find our own and find ways to hold onto it. I suppose the hardest is generating happiness for yourself by yourself.

[that's a good idea, honestly. she's now shaping the cinnamon rolls - only, she does push the bowl over to gemini.]

If you're lucky, you never have to do it yourself. [a beat.] I really rely on other people a lot for that. Not that I'm useless on my own or anything, because I'm not, I just, uh.

I'm made up of happy memories of the people I love.

[a beat.] Go wash your hands and then help me make these.

[the bowl is pushed and they seem to stare at it.]

I understand. Some people are simply better with others. But I...do hope that you will be able to do things on your own as needed. It's a hard thing to do when all of your happiest memories involve people you care for, but it's just as important to be able to do both.

[but they shut up and go to wash their hands. lup gets a peek at clawed handsies but not much else seeing how they almost immediately put new gloves on.]
