Today, when Shinobu is in her bedroom, she will receive a message on her typewriter.

Have you ever had one of those dreams where you awaken suddenly because you feel like you're falling?

Not a dream. Wake up call!

Immediately after she finishes reading the message, a trap door opens underneath Shinobu, plunging her into the darkness. When she wakes up at the bottom (?), bones miraculously not broken, she will find herself in a room.

It's a room she's never seen before, arching ceilings and starry-skied windows dotting each wall. A collection of bookcases, alchemy shelves and astronomy tools can be found here for perusal, though nothing can leave this room. A crescent moon-shaped window takes up a majority of the wall directly across from the entrance. Perched on the window seat is Gemini, a worn-out map in their hands.

"You certainly took your time, didn't you."

At a large mahogany desk in the center of the room, papers spread out in front of them, Aquila sits in a comfortable looking chair, elbows resting on the desk, chin perched in their gloved hand. You get the sense they might be smiling.

"Rise and shine. We've got work to do. Or, well... "

With a flick of their hand, Aquila opens a sheaf of papers labeled PARTICIPATION CONTRACT: ADDENDUM and turns it towards Shinobu.

"You've got a little extra work to do. Congrats on being qualified! I wouldn't recommend refusing. Now then - blue or black ink?"


RULES

1. Dawn Watch is required to report to the tower the moment they awaken on Friday morning.
2. Dawn Watch must select three locations to investigate after a murder has taken place. These selections must be made by sundown Thursday.
2A: Participant sleeping quarters are off-limits.
3. Dawn Watch may explore these three locations in any order they wish.
4. All evidence and sleepers will be preserved for observation.
5. Dawn Watch will not be able to meddle, remove or disturb any evidence they find during their rounds.
6. Dawn Watch must make their selection before leaving the tower and cannot change their mind upon beginning their rounds.
7. Dawn Watch is not to disclose that they are performing these duties. Discussing them with anyone other than authorized Hotel Staff will be considered breach of contract and will result in the death of Kanao.

[ good morning! shinobu is roused bright and early on friday from her grave (wow) by aquila and gemini, who lead her to her locations.

the first stop is the labyrinth. everything appears normal at first...then, shadows fill the room, the people vanish, and when the light returns, shinobu can see that the labyrinth doesn't look quite right! what would she like to examine? ]

She is going to check the lava to see if anyone threw anything in it and then check out to see if any coffins are disturbed, if she has the time.

shinobu may see a coffin with an open lid in the labyrinth! but they can't stay very long, as the labyrinth is long and complicated, and they have so little time before the morning comes.

in the penthouse, she finds no one sleeping, and nothing out of place. and in the casino shinobu finds no one sleeping and nothing out of place.

as they hit all three locations, the sun is beginning to rise further and further. gemini and aquila will escort shinobu back to her gravesite, where they will let her down as gently as possible and rebury her so she can be unearthed by her CR later. well done, dawn watch! ]

[they pause, opening their mouth to reply before pausing again.]

[Shinobu is expected to select three areas to explore Friday at dawn. The exploration itself will take place at this time, oocly threaded/delivered Friday morning with your mods.

Please submit your three locations by Thursday, 5pm PST/8pm EST!]

AQUILA & GEMINI

[ aquila is sitting at the desk, straight and proper in their chair. they're rubbing their thumb into their gloved palm, thoughtfully looking over the notes from their previous weeks or the maps.

gemini remains at the window, staring out at nothing and waiting for anything shinobu might need. ]

[ shinobu looks slightly troubled. ]

Can I ask if either of you know what's happening with all the shadows everywhere? Will those rooms be off limits?

Also, do either of you have healing slots available?

It's a bit alarming, isn't it? [A BIT?] Until we understand the cause and repercussions of the shadows, perhaps it would be best to leave the rooms off-limits for now. It may be worth attempting to understand them, but for your choice...let's draw focus elsewhere.

[but they think about this.]

I believe I have one available still, yes.

[ aquila tilts their head in gemini's direction. ]

Gems has one. I'm tapped, right now.

[ healing hands nerfed by only having two slots. anyway: ]

As for the shadows... yeah, they're right. It'd be best to avoid them for the sake that there's no guarantee if someone goes through them, that you'd even end up in the same space. As far as I've observed, it's somewhat random.

[wisterin]

It's more than a bit, considering this is supposed to be our last week, isn't it? Is it a sign of something?

[ but she nods. she will choose..... so far unshadowed places. ]

If possible, I'd like to heal my bone fractures more. I don't mind if everything else heals at a normal rate.

[wisterin]

[ she nods. ]

Is there any idea why they're doing that?

[guestservices]

It may be. But of what, I cannot really say. All we can do is continue to do our jobs and stay vigilant as always.

[but. they nod.]

I believe I can assist. [there's a pause though.] You're sure you don't want me to fix everything?

[wisterin]

Waiting and seeing isn't the most fun thing to do, but I understand.

[ well. ]

... I don't mind if everything is healed.

[guestservices]

[ they shrug a little. ]

If I had a concrete answer for you, I'd give it. It is the last week of your guys's contract, though. [ and a little joking, if darkly, ] Maybe the hotel's sulking.

[wisterin]

[ that makes her smile. ]

I'd take that as an explanation. If the hotel is throwing a tantrum because it'll feel lonely... it needs to rethink its behavior.

Maybe we should give it a good scolding.
