GRAVEYARD.

GRAVEYARD

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today...

...to be super dead. No, did you think you were getting a funeral? Sorry.

When you wake up, no matter how you died, you'll find yourself all in one piece, inside of a fairly large box that upon further inspection may in fact be a coffin. However, throwing the lid off isn't too difficult, and as you step out of your own grave, you'll find yourself standing in a cemetery behind a large mansion, where an iron gate stands between you and the entrance. Thankfully, the moment you approach, dirty and tired as you are, the gate swings open, and you're allowed immediate entrance into the mansion.

The mansion itself is a little dusty, and the furnishings are vintage at best, but... hey, it's home. Why don't you explore a little?

FIRST FLOOR.

★ On the first floor is a parlor and sitting area. On one of the tables is a phone, which as of Week 3, Saturday has a dial tone and can be used to contact hotel staff. In addition to that is a kitchen stocked with food - not to mention a large wine cellar full to the bursting with every kind of wine you could imagine. Vintage!

★ Walking down a long hallway, you'll find a laundry room with a washbin and a washboard, a few closets full of dusty old clothes, a large library, and an ornate dining room with a crystal chandelier.

Of note, the dining room in particular has a very tall wall of what look like portraits to one side. If you walk closer, however, you may notice that the portraits are moving - and appear to actually be holding black and white images of your friends (and enemies?) back in the hotel, so you can monitor their activities. That's nice! There are record players set up beneath the portraits, which come with blank records set in there already; if you turn them on while the blank records are set there, you will be able to hear what is being said by the people in the portraits.

★ At the very end of the first floor hallway is another door - it is locked up tight with a padlock, and has a message painted on it.... Don't dead? Inside here is the basement that the dead locked Qi Rong into on Friday of Week 5. In theory you might be able to take the key from someone and go in, since it hasn't been returned to Virgo; inside here is a dark, dank basement illuminated by a lantern giving off a dim green glow. There are barrels of stale water and sour wine, boxes containing stale crackers, extremely questionable jerky, and other rotted foodstuffs, and... uh... there are some unpleasant-looking rats skittering around. Icky. In practice, why would you want to? Just keep it locked.

1, 2, 3

SECOND FLOOR.

★ On the second floor of the mansion is a series of bedrooms. Just like the hotel, you'll find a room already booked with your name on a nameplate on the door - and a portrait of yourself, as well as your hostage, hanging just above the nameplate. The inside of the rooms are simple - a bed with red covers, a desk with a typewriter, and a small bathroom with a toilet and a clawfoot tub. Provided that you didn't give your belongings away, you'll find all of them on your bed, waiting for you upon your arrival. This includes tickets (so long as they weren't looted from your body and used to pay for hints) and other things that may have been evidence in your case but belonged to you beforehand.

★ A dumbwaiter sits at the end of the hallway of bedrooms. Inside of it is a typewriter, and a space where there once sat a golden bell labeled as Virgo's; however, the bell is currently missing. An unlabeled bell sits to the side of it. A small sign above the dumbwaiter says: PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT STAFF BY LEAVING A MESSAGE. VIRGO MAY ALSO BE SENT A TIP AND RUNG. PULL THE LEVER TO PRESS SEND. - STAFF

It seems you can reach out to the hotel staff by leaving a message or ringing the bell, though your options are limited for the latter. Sure enough, a lever in the wall next to the dumbwaiter is currently set to the "down" position. Push it to "up" and watch your message disappear.

★ Beside the dumbwaiter is one last bedroom. This room is marked with a plaque that says "Dream Suite", and has several familiar constellations decorating the door. Occasionally, when you ring the bell by the dumbwaiter while thinking of a member of Hotel Staff on the living side, the corresponding constellation on the door will light up, and you'll feel as though you should walk in. Inside, there is a line of comfortable beds. Lie down in one, and you'll have a dreamlike "in person" audience with the NPC you had attempted to contact.

OUTDOORS.

★ Outside of the mansion is a small garage. The ground here is worn down and thin, and you can almost make out what look like railroad tracks embedded in the dirt. Inside of the garage is a rattly old car that moves along those little railroad tracks, from the garage to the mansion front, and then back all the way around to the cemetery.

★ On the grounds, there is a garden full of flowers. There are also the remnants of gardening supplies and supplies to package and send bouquets, but none of these supplies are in useable condition now.

★ A "bumper cars" rink has been made by clearing out all of the rocks, weeds and grass in a sizeable area. There are some small slopes and dips, and a bumper barrier along the outside of the rink which was made by piling up compacted dead leaves from the graveyard. There are two "cars": laundry baskets that have rudimentary jar lid wheels with ladle axles and nails stolen from a dining room chair. They have been padded with some old clothing, like that will save anyone. Since we don't have electricity in hell, each "car" has one paddle made from tree branches broken down into the appropriate size, presumably used to push the cars around.

★ The cemetery where you first awaken is a direct copy of the cemetery outside of the hotel - right down to the placement of statues, mausoleums, and the creepy atmosphere. Your grave remains after you wake up in it, in case you want to take a dirt nap.

There may also be the possibility that the lock has some sort of warding or limiter capabilities made specifically to hold him. That does beg the question, though... why keep him captive, rather than just ridding themselves of him altogether?

It's a good thing that we were cautious enough to not break it, then...

[CAN YOU IMAGINE IF THEY HAD AND IT REALLY WAS SOME KIND OF WARD OR LIMITER. HELP. As for that, with a light laugh:]

Because he won't stay dead, I'd imagine.

[It is bad, actually, but what can one do outside of simply clean neurotically and cook for a thousand years...]

It hasn't been so bad, really! Though given what it means, I would have been happier if fewer of you were here...

[He says that but his little selfish Souji heart of hearts is glad for the company. No one will ever know. ANYWAY.]

--You died, then? Back at the-- school, was it?

I get what you mean. It's usually not a good thing to be alone, but...

[it becomes substantially better when being alone means nobody else is super dead!! that said, he doesn't seem that bothered as he continues. sometimes life is just like that, indeed.]

Yeah, like - three weeks in the last time, I think? So at least I made it longer this time around...

[two extra weeks of life!! silver linings!!]

[ love that vulpecula has the faith in us to mcmurder qi rong. kaeya is not one to turn away someone's touch, especially not if it has utility. souji's cute. he'll survive. ]

It's not far from where we started off in our last scenario, there was barely anything to eat at first. You're right, though. We'll certainly sort this out - we have to.

[ No idea. Part of the contract loophole? he doesn't like that idea, but it's a possibility that exists. talking this way isn't so difficult, and honestly reminds kaeya a little of work back home so he's more than content to remain cozy here. ]

Ah, I should pay a visit to Vulpecula after everything. I've become a bit attached to that one. See if maybe I can toss an idea around or two. Sometimes their insight is helpful.

I'm here to say hello! Don't hiss at me, you're not a cat... I don't think. Now that you're stuck here with us, you don't think there should be at least a little self-introduction???

[ Shame his ass. ]

Yeah, maybe. No offense but he looks like the type to let stuff slip on accident.

[There's just a little hum in response to the first part because yeah, they're just on the same wavelength. They're also unfortunately on the same wavelength about this too which is so stupid HELP.]

Oh, my... If you don't mind my asking, were you also killed in that one?

[Rupert just has the face of someone who'd get stabbed.]

[Honestly same, that's the backing we deserve(???) maybe,,. Good work Team Tactile, though.]

Ah, really? [A sympathetic note in his tone.] That sounds so dire... We really have been a bit spoiled here, it would seem.

[But it's fine! They'll deal or they'll maybe double-die trying and it'd probably be some kind of karma for unleashing Qi Rong in the first place, damn. Souji also doesn't like that idea, though it doesn't show in his expression. Controlled, measured - careful. Likely unsafe to ask. Boo.

The way his whole face lights up when Kaeya mentions Vulpecula fondly is very much genuine, though.]

Oh! You really should! Vulpecula-san has been nothing but wonderful the entire time I've spoken with them. If you were to ask about their ideas on exterminating the very large rat that we've found ourselves dealing with, I'm sure they would have plenty.

[what does this mean]

Not the same way I was here.

[personal profile] illomened 2022-07-13 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh... Were you executed, then?

[Sweet Rupert who doesn't know he's talking to Famed Murderer Okita Souji.]

--You don't have to speak of it, of course.
agleam: vyco (pic#15706129)

[personal profile] agleam 2022-07-13 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Ah... Yeah, I was. It's okay - I don't mind talking about it.

[which is about half honest - he seems a little uncomfortable, but not so much from talking about it as much as the idea of someone finding out the reasons behind that execution and Disliking Him. little does he know who he's talking to indeed........]
illomened: ((•ᗨ•;;))

[personal profile] illomened 2022-07-13 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
[SWEET RUPERT...!! Souji picks up on the discomfort, reaching out to reassuringly pat his arm. He has no idea that this is a case of "WHAT IF I'M DISLIKED" so much as a case of "being executed sucks!" Which, like. Yeah! It sure does! Even if it only lasts for 2 seconds.]

I was executed at the castle, so I understand... Especially since some of the methods can be quite brutal.
agleam: vyco (pic#15706129)

[personal profile] agleam 2022-07-13 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
[he's looking concerned in turn as he hears that, making a face. they can mutually arm pat now.]

...I'm sorry. I got kind of lucky in that regard, but - I hope yours wasn't too bad, whatever it was. Can I ask what happened...?

[personal profile] callalilies 2022-07-13 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
[ he nods ]

For now, though, I like the idea of an observational period. Perhaps divying us up into groups that can keep an eye out on certain areas? Keep it loose today, not to arouse suspicion, then step it up a bit more tomorrow...

If we can keep an eye out for the places he particularly likes to haunt, we might have a good chance of catching him.

[THE WATCHER IS WATCHING...

Meaning everyone has decided they're going to try to gather some intel first before making any big plans! Their braincell activated.

Throughout Monday, everyone will be keeping an eye on Qi-Rong in general but in like a casual way, they're trying to be DISCREET. They'll be making notes about his general patterns, including the areas he seems to frequent the most, along with the times that he seems to be there.

On Tuesday, they'll be dividing into a Night Shift and a Day Shift, with each team keeping an eye out for specific things throughout both the day and night respectively. They'll have teams covering the grounds, the mansion, the graveyard and the garage with emphasis on places he seemed to spend more time in on Monday. They'll be trying to match up his actions with Monday to see about any patterns and specifically be keeping an eye out for:

• Does he spend more time at specific locations? Is there anywhere he tends to avoid?
• What times he seems to be in what places
• The key... if it's on his person along with any other items he might have (weapons, etc.), OR if he ever seems to take anything from any other location
• Where does he go at night? Does he stop to eat or sleep at all? What times does he rest and does he seem to have any preferred locations for resting? About how long do his rest breaks last?
• Where he's setting his traps and how he sets them/how he gets materials to set them

I believe that's a good plan. [A little nod!] Though we can't waste much time, the more information we have, the better our chances will be of pulling this off without anything going awry.

[With "pulling this off" being "killing him".]

Oh! I'm glad that you got lucky... I hope it was a quick one, then? Or simple, at least. [A BEAT, THOUGH. Souji is unbothered and also he had one of the least gruesome deaths out of anyone executed, but, like.] --Well, I was pushed into a pit of quicksand, so it was a bit messy. But also fairly quick!

That - does not sound pleasant. I'm really sorry.

It wasn't that bad, to be honest. [Dying slowly of tuberculosis over months is much worse! Anyway.] But, ah... Well - if it isn't prying too egregiously, then I would, yes.

[personal profile] agleam 2022-07-13 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's - I mean, obviously not good, but you know what I mean. Better than the alternative, if a lot of yours were brutal.

[one hand for petting saizo, one hand for patting souji...]

No, it's not. It doesn't really bother me anymore. [especially since he had a much more brutal go of it this time, it's fine now.] They were kind of intense where I was from on the whole, because there was some force that made us fight each other even if we didn't want to, but... The person with me had a power that let him turn off that instinct. It took him a little bit to activate it, so I wouldn't really say it was quick or simple, but once it worked, he did things in a way that wasn't painful or anything. I got luckier than most people who had to go through it.

[i just remembered they're having this discussion at the breakfast table just super casually]

Oh, dear... That's a different sort of brutality, but brutal nonetheless. [Like, at least none of them were compelled to fight each other?? It was either gruesome fairytale execution carried out by the gods, or one carried out by an actual executioner with full execution rights.]

...I'm glad to hear that it turned out as well as it could in the end, though. Or at least better than what could have been.
stinky: (018)

[personal profile] stinky 2022-07-13 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
[on monday, their discreet observations will reveal... that he doesn't really seem to have much rhyme or reason to what he's doing, honestly. he just kind of goes from place to place within the mansion and around the grounds, ransacking the rooms and such while checking places virgo might be hiding - in closets, under beds, etc. no one area is frequented more often than the others on monday, and he's just in various places at various times of day as he systematically tears the place apart while searching.

on tuesday, there still isn't much of a discernible pattern. he checks whichever places he's at, makes a huge mess while he searches, and moves on from place to place.

- there is no particular place he spends more time at than others, and nowhere in particular he tends to avoid, either
- he started off in the mansion in the morning, then went out to the garage in the afternoon and the cemetery in the evening before looping back
- he doesn't actually stop to rest on tuesday. he does start complaining about being hungry, but he doesn't go to the kitchen; rather, he goes to the cemetery and starts digging up graves, but after he digs up three and comes up empty he lets out a string of expletives and goes to search the garage for virgo again (and finds nothing).
- he is setting his traps pretty much everywhere - pitfalls in the grounds and in the cemetery, sharp objects hidden in the flowers, nets and so on where he can rig them up near trees/things to hang from in the mansion, etc. some of the objects for his traps are improvised from the materials in the mansion; others, he snaps his fingers and little ghostly henchmen with green fires above their heads appear, dragging the supplies he needs along behind them as if from nowhere.
- OH WOW I MISSED A WHOLEASS LINE ABOUT THE KEY. it does not appear to be visibly on his person, but then, you weren't able to see it on virgo's person either just by looking. he does occasionally take things from other locations for his traps.

yeehaw.]
