[ yeah you guys really suck at half of your job. maybe you'll be better at the other half? the hunting things half. who knows.
anyway. harrow's (wo)manpain aside - when she looks around, she doesn't see anything unusual. just the trees, the road, the wind blowing through their hair. no one there!
hua cheng is still holding a corpse of a dead girl. wow. ]
[ there are, once again, so many fucking weapons in here. there are just an unreasonable amount of guns. ammo. salt. a flamethrower. there's a club that looks like it's made out of bone. a giant two handed sword. a scimitar. throwing knives. nunchuks. like, literally, there are so many fucking weapons.
stella gets her final resting place in the back of hua cheng's car. rest in peace, nice lady.
the mansion looms ahead; the woods are ahead of it. they could walk through the woods, or get back in the car and drive. ]
[it probably makes sense to drive in case they have to high tail it out of here. So, letβs do that. Drive right to the front and then get out and load up up on salt, a flame thrower, throwing knives, andβ¦for some reason she decides to bring that two-hander with her.]
[ agreed. they've been in and out of these plenty, right? always better to have a getaway car. and their veritable armory just in range, just in case.
why do they have some of this stuff? hua cheng thinks that, but he still grabs salt, a shotgun, some more ammo for the glock and the shotgun both, and the scimitar. ]
[ yeah there's some weird shit in this trunk. one could call it... junk in the trunk.
anyway! when our leather jacket clad heroes drive off with their sad, dead cargo, they don't have to go very far. on the top of the hill around the woods is a rickety old mansion. it's not... falling apart, but it's not in great shape, either - the front porch looks like its seen better days, and the paint job is chipped and peeling.
this is the spot on the map that's marked. the mansion itself, supposedly dealing with some kind of terrible ghost or wraith.
it is, naturally, eerily quiet. a full moon rises overhead, peeking past the oncoming storm clouds - dramatic thunder rolls as they exit the car. the manor doors, at least, according to your client, should be open. ]
[ this dynamic is perfect actually. no notes. 10/10.
anyway, into the spooky mansion with you! it is, predictably, a spooky mansion. everything in here is incredibly dusty - large drop cloths cover the furniture. a candelabra sits in the center of the main room, with burnt candles inside of it. there are no light switches - or, if there are, someone stopped paying the electric bill a long time ago.
there's a staircase but it seems one of the stairs in the center is out, though it leads the way to an upstairs.
the duo can take a moment to explore, if they'd like? spooky. ]
[ he rolls his eye at her, but follows easily, preferring to keep her in his line of sight as they get started. because whatever is here sure did gouge a girl's eyes out, and he only has one of those. not as appealing. ]
Probably will. [ offhanded. from where he's following, can he see anything of interest? other rooms besides the main one to peek at? ]
[ harrow could maybe make it, if she wanted to! she'd have to jump for it. it's a pretty large gap.
nothing they can see! the back room is closed off. the room in the downstairs is dusty and covered in dropcloth-covered furniture. it is so quiet. the floorboards creak under their every step. ]
anyway harrow may chance the stairs! as she runs to jump -
siamu π beehop Roll: [1] Result: 1
- the floor gives out from underneath her and she makes it barely six inches into the big ass gap. the staircase crunches under their combined weight.
when harrow looks down, she'll see underneath her is not just the floor? but a hole. and in that hole... there's just a whole lot of broken glass. and it is real far down. she might be able to scrabble at the remains of the stairs to not crash into it but otherwise
[ luckily, harrow makes it across, as hua cheng watches this happen. he puts one hand to his chest, as if his heart could beat out of it, and he sighs, relieved and annoyed in spades.
he does not jump after her. at least not right away. ]
Still here. If it gives under your weight, don't know if it'd be a good idea for me to jump on them when you're still on them, Harrow.
[ dex is his highest stat he'd probably be fine. maybe. ]
[ MY SPOOKY MOD HOLE that i definitely didn't just make up.
anyway, harrow is able to grab the remains of the stairs with no trouble, thank god. hua cheng does not jump. however, now that he's close, he will see that his legs are long enough that he literally could have just stepped across compared to harrow's very cool and sexy jump.
when they look down, they can see the shattered glass below, and some kind of basement. the entire room is full of shattered glass, actually, so, it may be bad news to go down there. ]
getting up the stairs as she goes up the other side, he just. looks at it. looks at her back. looks at it.
and then he steps across it. with a little hop, if necessary. but only if necessary. ]
Basements and attics. We could go top to bottom, if we see anything up ahead. Otherwise, I can probably lower you down, and jump down, if there's a clear spot or you move that death trap.
[ he offers her a hand. hey. your brother's a long-legged freak, sorry for stealing all of the height. ]

anyway. hua cheng's freakishly long legs allow him to step over the hole. harrow is not going to fall, now, at least. whew! there's the sound of canned laughter, somewhere, from far away, and the two are filled with a brief sense of approval. they may go upstairs, if they like! there is actually a pull that looks like it leads to a ladder...? ]
[ hup. harrow secured. he glances at the ceiling, as if he can find where the laughter is coming from. this place is deeply haunted. ]
Yeah, I'll get it. Prepare to shoot anything that moves. [ he will reach up to get the pull, from what he assumes is the side, so that he doesn't get shot or bonked. ]
the attic is... dusty. like hella dusty. while the stairs were clearly hua cheng's favored terrain, the attic is harrow's, as hua cheng cannot even come close to standing in here, while harrow can stand at her full height. the attic itself is full of more dust covered furniture, and...
... a corpse! wow. well, maybe. it looks more like a skeleton, actually. harrowhark, who has had a freakish interest in bones her entire life for some weird reason, will recognize that it's an anatomical skeleton, not a real one. it just hangs on a hook in the middle of this room full of boxes and dusty furniture. there's also an old flashlight? that seems useful.
the floorboards creak as she moves around, but nothing too strange yet. ]

She has to be stopped before this happens again.

[ stop he'll settle "stella" onto the backseat with one of the flannels over her respectfully. ]
Let's load up before we leave. I'd rather be armed the second we step out of the car again than go in half-cocked.
