[ not long after his text, a shadowy portal opens up in rupert's room, and out steps aquila. i can't remember if i threaded with both of you already or not so for reference, they are sporting a pair of large black wings, and are gloveless, as their hands are pitch black and end in pointed claws. ]
Having some kind of private party, you two? [ a glance at yuri. ] We just keep meeting like this.
Rupert and I are friends. [ there's a "nyehhh" energy to this. ]
Anyway. Only one of you can make a deal, and if you're gonna do it, you can't get help from a spectator on what the justification of it is. So, if Yuri's gonna watch, he can watch, but he's gotta sit there and look pretty. No helping.
[pauses awkwardly before he just decides to move on.]
I was thinking about two things in particular... I'm thinking one of them might not be possible yet, but I thought I'd check in on both of them anyways. The spot at the concierge with all the envelopes... I thought it would be pretty entertaining if that slot got opened up, and we got to send messages to the people who've left us. The other thing I was thinking is that it might be entertaining if one or two of those doors a week actually gave us some kind of useful supplies, instead of just - you know, various physical and emotional wounds.
[he tilts his head, thinking for a few moments before he speaks.]
I've talked to a few people about how we've considered not going into those doors anymore, since they never seem to do anything good. It's been neutral at best. There are probably people who won't go near them anymore. I think if people started to think they had some benefit, they might be more willing to try them out, so whoever your boss is could be entertained by that. And if it were something like... Whatever gift or supplies that we put in there were limited, so only certain people who went inside the door could get it, or it was only available in one of the doors... Then I think it might be a little bit like - [glancing at yuri for a brief second.] Uh, like the other thing we talked about that I won't specify just in case it ruins it! But, it might mean that anyone who doesn't end up getting something useful from the doors starts getting angry.
I haven't gone in any this week. I'm not a fan of purposely torturing myself, after all. Is there a specific reason the doors are there, and why we have access to them? Because if there is, it would be good to know as people will just stop entering them without reason or reward.
they make a little motion. a shadow opens up near yuri, and a sticky hand comes up and slaps over yuri's mouth. shh. it's not actually stuck there but it probably gets the point across. ]
Mmm. Well, you've got somebody out there who's going around labeling doors. What happens when they discover some door that's randomly got something good in it, and they label it? Then no one goes to any door but the fun one, and that's not particularly entertaining. Nor does it have anything to do with the Host's main philosophy here, which is entertainment via, you know.
[he tries very hard not to laugh at the sticky hand. it's a concerted effort.]
True... Maybe it only lasts until whoever it is puts up those signs, then? And then once they do, the room changes to something else, or at least loses whatever's in there that might be useful. Then people are going to be upset with whoever put the signs up, and since they haven't made it clear who they are, people aren't going to know what to think.
[ they catch the sticky hand without even looking ]
... Iunno about this one, Rupes. Lots of what ifs. We definitely don't control who puts up the signs, either, so that's more work on us.
[ aquila flicks their wrist to make the sticky hand disappear, and absently rubs their thumb against their palm. thinking. ] Can you think of a different way to attack this?
Ignoring the signs - what if it were completely random, like the last thing we talked about? Some people go into a door and get the normal and very bad door experience, some people go in and get something nicer. Then it'd be a little like the other thing, where people start wondering why and getting angry about it.
I'd need to talk to the others about it, but I'm not sure if that's gonna work right now, either. We just got the other thing in place, and that was already pretty nice, even if it's the way it is.
[ us in the mod chat sweating over ooc details
they're vague on purpose, but... they sound genuinely apologetic, reaching under their veil to adjust something, or maybe rub between their eyebrows. ]
This can act as a good example for Yuri, at least, but I think in the circumstances, I won't be able to say yes. Sorry, Rupert.
It's okay. It's not your fault, and - I'm sure we can think of something else soon. [he glances back towards yuri.] That's pretty much how it works, though - you just have to find a way to justify it that seems like it would be more appealing to the person in charge, even if it's something that helps us, too.
So throwing a "prize" into one of the rooms, and incentivising us to keep looking through them and do our best to beat the challenges inside of them for that prize wouldn't count as entertaining enough for your Nightman, Aquila?
[ you can't see their face, but they definitely make a face. ]
I don't know, Yuri. It's - the doors are hard to predict, anyway, so adding something to to them or changing them would probably be impossible. Like I said. I'll snoop around, but I doubt it.
Don't go asking the others for deals about the doors, while you're at it. They'll give you the exact same answer.
We've been telling you guys, we really aren't your all knowing overlords like some of you keep assuming.
[ they shrug. to rupert: ] ...Iunno. It'd really depend on what it was, and I think two in one day might be pushing it. Keep in mind that I'm not trying to lose my job.
Right... I definitely don't want to get you in trouble. This can just be an example for him, then, and if I think of something else, I'll come back on Saturday. Sound good?

[giving them a wave and a grin. he's kind of glowing right now, and the color brightens into an excited yellow as they enter.]
I'm not sure if we're allowed to team up to make deals... But he was curious about how it works, so I wanted to show him. Is that okay?
no subject
Oh Rupert chose you this time. Sorry to disappoint.

Make sense?

[he glances towards yuri for a second.]
Is that okay with you? I'll try to make it as obvious as possible the kind of things you'll have to aim for.

[ he will actually sit, and cross one leg over the other. smile. ]
I'm great at sitting and looking pretty, no worries.

Alright. What are you trying to do?

If I can think of something else while I'm here, can I ask for that, or is it one request a day?

So the doors are a huge mystery even to the staff. I'm not sure if that's reassuring or not.
