The deal was supposed to be that if we participated in this study they'd grant us any wish we wanted. But then when we actually got there they said they didn't have enough resources to grant everyone's wish, so I think maybe two of them did it because they wanted to take out enough competition to make sure they'd get theirs? And one other I think might have just been a fear thing since other people were dying.
But I think the two the vampire did were just because he was a vampire and a jerk.
While I should condone you about being prejudice against vampires, I suppose you have something of a reason to feel that way. It sounds rather foolish on your conductors' part to bring everyone there and not be able to follow through.
[ the aliens were babahlese ambassadors all along ]
I-it was supposed to be for like, all this instant courtroom experience, so I could make sure I'd do the best job possible at my first trial and look really cool and get my guilty verdict for sure!
I mean, I don't really... know how a coupon was supposed to do that... but, anyway, just as I was trying to figure out how to redeem that, suddenly Pops was in trouble and this whole thing started.
[ he still doesn't know if that timing was a coincidence or not. ]
...you truly have not had much of a break since all of this started, have you? I don't think experience is really something you can buy anyhow, but this isn't exactly a normal internship either.
Last time I was afraid the whole stupid thing happened because I wished for that and that was the courtroom it gave me to get experience in... a-and I kind of thought that again at first with this one, since I'd just taken the coupon out of the envelope that morning...
But yeah, these places are so bad at law that I don't know how much these trials help at all. ...I guess maybe they do a little, for some things, but.
I think, perhaps, the law and the court isn't always as cut and dry as one is led to believe. You could say that the insanity of trials here is meant to prepare you for anything that may be thrown your way.
[a beat.]
It isn't as though the path to the truth is cut and dry either.
[ it's always about the truth, huh. it feels like every time he starts believing it's the most important thing, he gets confronted by a horrible one the next week that he wishes had never come to light. ]
...I wish reaching it didn't feel so bad sometimes.
I believe we can both agree with that. And yet...I don't think it's fair to shy away from it just because it feels awful either. We must simply learn to proceed with what we learn as we learn it.
I think I'd hate it less if we'd gotten the full truth in this last case instead of just like, the worst part of it. I mean... I know we needed to find out what happened to Hope, but we still don't know what happened to Aikawa or Zuko. And whoever was responsible for those... I don't think learning the truth about them could have been as hard as it was with Kazunari.
...you know as well as I do that you cannot rely on biases in a court [...] But you also cannot help how you feel about people, especially watching them in difficult situations.
[they think.]
Do you suppose it would have been better for Kazunari to live with himself after what happened?
...I suppose so. Yes. I believe they call that atonement. I can't say that I knew Mister Miyoshi very well, so I can't speak for what he would have done given the opportunity to continue.

[also why was it only two weeks, help.]

...And the murder stuff wasn't supposed to be part of it, people just... did that.
no subject
Uh. Why? What do you mean people just did it on their own?

So... it wasn't great.

No? Why do you say that? All three of them were deaths without warning, were they not?

Yeah?? If you're alive you can still do good stuff to try to kind of make up for it, right?

...I suppose so. Yes. I believe they call that atonement. I can't say that I knew Mister Miyoshi very well, so I can't speak for what he would have done given the opportunity to continue.

He would have kept working hard to get us all through this and bring everyone back! So I'm... trying to do it too.

Yeah...
[ he's trying but he has no idea what he's doing... ]
...A-anyway, I'll let you back to your papers or whatever. So... thanks again. For helping Marie.

Always, Mister Debeste. Until next time.
[and they will wave him off. good luck sebastian.]
