[there are so many points in the middle of touken ranbu musicals where they're like 'where did mikazuki go?' after spending a whole scene not realizing he's missing. this has the energy of that.

aka he's probably already picked up a pick axe as his new cane so that he doesn't have to use his sword in case his limp gets worse, and then checked if he could push the mining cart onto the tracks to build momentum before boarding. can he even do this by himself? if he can't i guess he'll be stuck waiting for the others anyway
