I don't really have one. We're co-workers, so I'll work with all of them, but I wouldn't say I have a favorite.

It could be an unfair trade if I really don't have an answer for you. [are they still walking. did they stop to make this deal and start talking shit. help. either way they shrug.] It's not so much about being here to work alone, it's that we're all pretty different and it's easy to be polite enough to get along with them even if I don't spend much time with them otherwise. I guess maybe Aquila's fine? Cetus is okay.

I don't know. Guest relations means working with all of them and making sure things run smoothly.

[Surprisingly, he seems to accept this. Also, yes, they stopped walking to shake on it, and now they are standing there like idiots in the middle of the hotel bullying each other even though Clem just got found guilty.]

[He pretends like he's being thoughtful. Then, parroting:]

I guess maybe Aikawa is fine. Cloud is okay.

after a second, something zips at jason's head that may or may not hit him. it's a c*ke bottle cap.]

Interesting choices. [they say, like they didn't just try to bean him in the face.] Cloud I can sorta get but I didn't think you knew Aikawa enough to make a call already.

[Okay, Jason is a Bat, and he's decently fast, but he does NOT expect to get ATTACKED. So the cap hits him right in the noggin. He hunches his shoulders under the onslaught.]

[He picks it up because SHOCKINGLY he is clean... and does not litter... which is hysterical considering. He rolls the cap through his knuckles and fingers.]

I've talked to him a few times. He reminds me of someone back home. Bizarro. Guy with--probably--shitty circumstances [who is also a knock-off maybe but Jason doesn't know this] with not a whole lot going on upstairs sometimes who is trying his best even if a lot of the time he fucks up? Unfortunately endearing.

If you tell anyone, I will have to kill you.

Could've done without the mockery. [but sure, his cap now. instead they listen to what he says, nodding along for a bit.]

First of all, I would rather keep the information to blackmail you if I have to. [a joke...probably.] Second of all I don't tell people stuff unless I have to and they know about it. Aikawa seems fine. We've talked a little. Offered to get lunch with me next week.

Oh yeah. Big Guy loves to eat. He was taking out the whole restaurant when I talked to him the first time. So if you end up not being hungry, he’ll eat it for you.

That might very well be the case, so good to know. We'll see if he follows through though. A lot of you guys are trying different approaches here.

Maybe you can make some friends. Then later I can ask who is your favorite out of all of us.

I get that guest relations means making sure your stay is comfortable and people are content, but I didn't say that included making friends.

Don't want to make any friends? Wow-wee, you're starting to sound like me. That can't be good.

[A small shrug.]

Well, I can't tell you to make any, or my glass house would fall down because I'm throwing stones in it. To be honest, I'm not looking to make friends either. You see where it got me this time, and Royce and I aren't even friends.

Friends don't always stay anyway. [idly. but...]

So who exactly is Royce to you then?

[The inside self of him goes `Oh n`, but he can't do much more than slowly raise both eyebrows for a moment. Thinking about being enough of an asshole on purpose to get Roy to hate him so they can stop being best friends.........

He's the friend that doesn't always stay in this situation, yikes.]

Is it bad if friends change as you change?

One of the more sensible guys stuck with me on hell island.

What if we don't talk about actual friends? [it's casually said, and there's not really room for argument.]

What made him sensible? Did you guys work together on the island?

[Touchy. He only somewhat throws a hand up briefly in surrender. Fine. No friend talk.]

He was sensible because, after washing up on the island and being told we'd be hunted for sport, he didn't try to play the good guy. He never trusted anyone. He never took any shit from anyone. At our first trial, he was the only one of us who actually voted for a person he thought was guilty.

He was honest, even if it meant people thought he was an asshole. I appreciated it.

...I think I could appreciate an honest man more than a likable man, too. At least you know exactly what to expect than trying to figure out the intentions later. Especially in a situation like that.

Yeah. That’s why I liked him. He never tried to pretend he wasn’t an asshole. But—I don’t know, it wasn’t unreasonable. He wasn’t a dick for the hell of it. People just thought he was because he took the options we were supposed to take, and he questioned everything.

I guess it felt familiar. I wasn’t the only one who was the same way.

I think you can be an asshole and still be reasonable if there's a good reason for you being the way you are. Some people are better at investigating than others.

And...people are drawn to people who think like them. The more you explain it the less I'm surprised.
