This is a contract between Hua Cheng, hereafter referred to as "the Player," and the Nightman, hereafter referred to as "the Host". By signing this contract, both parties agree to and are bound by its terms.
GENERAL INFORMATION. The term of this Agreement shall begin upon signature. The Player shall check in as a guest of the Starlight Hotel, and the agreement shall continue through its termination date of approximately eight weeks later when the Player checks out, should they survive their stay. During this time, the Player shall provide entertainment to the Host by participating in murder trials, casting votes for a culprit, attending executions, and engaging in a variety of weekly activities. The Player consents to any scenario which will make observing their stay more entertaining for the Host.
Someone of importance to the Player, hereafter referred to as "the Hostage," has been obtained by the Host to be held in captivity and will remain so even if this contract is not signed. By signing this contract, the Player agrees to register as a guest of the Starlight Hotel in exchange for the chance to gain custody of their Hostage. Should sufficient entertainment be provided, the Hostage will be set free and returned in a satisfactory manner regardless of the state of their mortality and vitality.
During the course of the Player's stay, the Host will be largely unavailable but will be aware of all ongoings within the hotel to accurately gauge the level of entertainment provided. The Host has authorized eight individuals, hereafter referred to as "Hotel Staff," to act on his behalf. Questions, concerns, and complaints must be directed to Hotel Staff. Directives from Hotel Staff should be honored in the same manner as the Host’s directives.
HOTEL STAFF. Hotel Staff can be identified by the Starlight Hotel uniforms and answer to the names "Aquarius," "Aquila," "Cetus," "Gemini," "Lepus," "Orion," "Virgo," and "Vulpecula". Hotel Staff will be authorized to make deals with the Player for additional incentives or introduce new rules for the purposes of entertainment; however, they may not void the terms of this contract.
ENTERTAINMENT. Any Player who is alive* and in the Lobby of the Starlight Hotel to check out at the termination date of this contract will be considered to have sufficiently fulfilled the terms outlined. The Player and their Hostage will be freed as per the above terms.
Any Player who is not alive and/or is unable to return to the Lobby of the Starlight Hotel to check out at the termination date of this contract will be considered to have failed to sufficiently fulfill the terms outlined, and their life and the life of their Hostage will be forfeit.
To sufficiently fulfill this agreement, the Player must provide entertainment for the entire duration of their stay.
An exception to the above clause is as follows: if a Player commits a murder of another Player, their Hostage will be released in a satisfactory manner at the termination date regardless of the Player’s survival. As the Host's preference for entertainment is murder, those who provide this form of entertainment will find that the Host will honor these terms even if a Player is found guilty by trial or removed from the game by another Player later.
Additionally, the Host will be unable to harm, kidnap, imprison or otherwise interact with any Player or Hostage who has been released at any point in the future, except to send them to whichever world they wish to go to once their stay at the Starlight Hotel has concluded.
*For the purposes of this contract, alive is taken to mean in the same general physical condition as their arrival (with an allowance made for injuries sustained over the course of their stay); undead Players will be considered "alive" provided that the nature of their undeath is identical to how it was when they arrived.
ENTERTAINMENT, CONTINUED. Should a Player murder to ensure the safety of a Hostage, only the Hostage corresponding with that Player will be protected by these terms. Players may not commit murders to ensure the safety of another Player's Hostage.
The Player who strikes the killing blow will be considered to have committed a murder, and thus only their Hostage will be spared. Acting as an accomplice to someone else's murder will not free your Hostage. Appropriate compensation will be rewarded for your assistance which may prove to your benefit.
The following acts of murder do not fall under entertainment:
✦ Excessive murder by a singular party. ✧ Murder of all other guests by a singular party or a coordinated group. ✦ Suicide with the explicit intent to save the Hostage. ✧ Murder of a member of Hotel Staff.
A Player is not barred from taking part in a murder more than once should they have a legitimate reason to do so. However, any and all attempts to eliminate a mass amount of Players at once will be considered an attempt of early termination and thus will be considered a breach of contract.
Failure at limitation will result in permanent erasure.
BREACH OF CONTRACT. Should the Player fail to fulfill the terms of this contract, the lives of both the Player and the Hostage will be forfeit to the Host. This includes but is not limited to failing to cast a vote, refusing to participate in murder trials, refusing to watch the executions, deliberately abstaining from weekly activities, divulging information that they have been instructed to keep secret, attempting to end their stay at the Starlight Hotel early, or encouraging other Players to breach their contract. For more information about what may constitute a breach of contract, speak with Hotel Staff.
SUMMARY. By this contract, the Player agrees to provide entertainment to the Host, by following schedule in exchange for the life and safety of the Player's hostage.
This agreement is binding, and failure to meet its terms will allow the Host to take the life of both the Player and the Hostage.
Well, can't say that it was signed by anyone else, since there's no replicating that.
[ that's. that's all he has to say at first. tanhua follows after orion like he's stalking them, tails flicking, but he doesn't make any move to attack or otherwise accost. just. stalking.
hua cheng picks up the contract to properly read it, though. ]
I get enough out of Yoo Joonghyuk about it, thank you. You can be grateful for the typewriters too.
[ he's just going to continue having terrible handwriting on goddamn principle now.
tanhua moves around to stare up at orion from their feet. and then sits there at them. okay then. ]
It states that the Host will be "largely unavailable." I take that to mean he's happily watching our every move for this signed entertainment and makes no intention of revealing himself to us?
[ this is also on principle, now. tanhua gets up, moves, and sits the same space away from them. this is apparently a game of "i'm not touching you," now, because even if the daemon is more of an ordinary animal here it's still a hua cheng-based animal.
hua cheng does not stop this. ]
In multiple scenarios, at this point. At least Jun Wu never wrote a contract that I agreed to. [ but he sits up, flipping through again. ] I assume that the information about Sieghart being approached and possessed has reached the staff? Extra incentive to murder if we don't act on it ourselves?
Most of the deaths in our round happened due to compulsion in a similar fashion. We also only learned of it secondhand. [ frowning. similar, but not exact - a part of him wants to see what happens when faced with those shadows that sieghart met with. ] Either way, there's no current means of voiding this contract, so here we are.
I kill someone, and Dianxia is guaranteed safe regardless of circumstances. [ he's done worse in the name of love. ] So, what needs to be done to acquire something off your part of the menu?
[ orion taps their finger against the inside of their arm. they're quiet for a long moment, thinking over what hua cheng is saying.
and after a long pause: ]
...You begin the agreement by stating the reason why you want the power you want; if the staff member deems it acceptable, then you will be assigned a task. Completion of this task will act as payment for the power. Once you've begun an agreement with a staff member, you have until the end of a week to complete it, and you cannot begin this process with any other staff member until the week is out.
Who's There - is it a full, physical transformation? Shapeshifting and not an illusion?
And for Simon Says, is there a limitation on the command? Or does it still consider it a command so long as it's from when you begin to issue it to the end of your intent? [ is it a phrase or can it be, like, instructions. ]
[ they nod. ] For the first, that's correct. A complete physical transformation.
[ and then tilt their head. ]
... For the second. A reasonable command can only involve one phrase. If you attempt anything longer than that, or anything too long - such as attempting to fit multiple commands into a sentence, the power will only work on the first phrase.
[ cool cool cool that's what he was hoping for. the latter he can still work with, though, considering even a phrase is enough. come with me without attacking me is a complete command without becoming complicated. you just have to get it out before they can react. ]
Is Sunday considered the end of the week here, as well? [ is that how long he has. ] And, I suppose, final question - are both of them still on the menu?
I want to request both, for the purpose of framing someone of a smaller size than myself with Who's There and using Simon Says to command a victim into cooperation. Ideally to catch them before they can put up too much of a struggle that would leave behind circumstantial physical evidence on myself, but barring that... then possibly to leave behind evidence on the framed party, if they're still unconscious for the night.
[ they tilt their head for a moment again, and then turn to rifle their papers, putting the contract back and summoning a swirl of shadows to place them in. turned to that, they consider briefly... ]
... Convince four people in the hotel that they should leave good tips for the staff. Four separate people. The people you convince can't be from the same location you were in previously.
[ oocly, make sure the threads you submit show substantial evidence of convincing! ]
When you've finished the task, reach out to me again and we can complete the agreement.
[ wow, so this is what it's like, being on the other side of task assignments.
it's not an unreasonable request, in the long run. he files it away and moves to get up, dusting himself off despite not needing it. it's only then that tanhua stops playing his stupid game of "i'm not touching you," moving towards his person, tails all flicking as he stretches front paws together like a cat, then one hind leg before the other. ]
Are they allowed to know it's a task, or am I suddenly advocating for offerings out of the kindness of my devoted heart?
[ they nod, a bit stiffly. ] Out of "the kindness of your devoted heart" would be acceptable, if not particularly believable in this particular situation.
