Some of the evidence was inconsistent. That he was attacked with that spear, but then had knife wounds all over himself.

Zuko covered in burns but still had stab wounds, did he not?

Yes? But it is not easy to ensure that burns will be fatal. Stabbing someone through the brain is quite effective.

The point is, it is possible that one method of killing does not actually mean anything in the long run. Perhaps the spear was coincidental to the overall case.
